For most general-service noncorrosive applications, the wheels use medium- to heavy-gauge carbon or alloy steel. For the centrifugal types, a die-formed entrance shroud provides smooth entrance flow of the air into the wheel. A solid steel plate serves as a back plate of the single entrance wheel, but of course, cannot be used on a double-entry wheel. Flere, both sides of the wheel have entrance shrouds. For most fans, blades are riveted to the back plate or hub respectively. For centrifugals, the blades are usually welded to the shroud however, they can be welded to both shroud and backplate. We use commercial Ti02 crystals (Pi-Kent) cut and polished to within 0.3° of the (110) face and we prepare them further with cycles of Ar + bombardment and U H V annealing to approximately 950-1100 K, typically 5-10 min for each cycle. The horizontal exposure method is not very adequate for the OSU RHR calorimeter, because the heat reflected from the aluminum foil onto the sample is much lower than the heat generated by the glow bars. Since the OSU calorimeter is based on the adiabaticity of the measurements, any heat losses will represent inaccurate results. The reflection on the aluminum foil is also uneven. The lap shear test involves measuring the adhesive shear strength between two surface fluorinated polyolefin sheet tokens that are adhesively secured with a reinforcement resin.
