Coatings sputter

Sputter coating of watches, frames for eyeglass and similar items with titanium nitride. [Pg.437]

In order to perform the electrodeposition, first a 3 nm layer of Au was sputter-coated onto one side of the ca. 50 p.m thick membrane to form a conductive surface. A Ni substrate layer was then electrochemically plated on top of the Au, as to... [Pg.191]

This technique can be applied to samples prepared for study by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). When subject to impact by electrons, atoms emit characteristic X-ray line spectra, which are almost completely independent of the physical or chemical state of the specimen (Reed, 1973). To analyse samples, they are prepared as required for SEM, that is they are mounted on an appropriate holder, sputter coated to provide an electrically conductive surface, generally using gold, and then examined under high vacuum. The electron beam is focussed to impinge upon a selected spot on the surface of the specimen and the resulting X-ray spectrum is analysed. [Pg.369]

A section of the film was removed from the bag and was immersed in liquid nitrogen. The section was then freeze-fractured and mounted on the SEM stage with the outside surface of the bag section facing downward. The sample was sputter coated prior to SEM/EDS analysis. Sputtering was performed to deposit approximately 20 nm of gold/palladium onto the sample. Double-sided conductive tape was used to ensure that the sample was sufficiently grounded to... [Pg.630]

Note We recommend that after performing step 1 above that the specimens be rinsed three times in a phosphate buffer (pH 7.2), which will remove any residual glutaraldehyde before beginning the dehydration series. Garduno etal. (13) also use a second technique in which they cut small pieces of medium containing diatoms and immediately fix the pieces in liquid nitrogen. The pieces are freeze-dried and then gold sputter coated. [Pg.203]

Dehydrate in a graded alcohol series series (30%, 50%, 70%, 90%, 100%), for 100% use in 200 proof alcohol Freon or amyl acetate (use a graded series, e.g., 1 3, 1 2, 1 1 Freon/alcohol and then pure Freon) Critically point dry using liquid C02 soaks and flushes Mount on aluminum stubs using silver paint or double-stick tape0 Sputter coat with gold/palladium in a sputter coater flushed with argon... [Pg.211]

Lightly sputter coat the fractured surfaces with platinum-palladium. [Pg.295]

A cross-sectional view of a C. digitata seed is shown in a scanning electron micrograph (SEMT in Figure 1. The section was treated with hexane before being sputter-coated (12) and is morphologically identical to a similar view of C. pepo (12). The seed coat comprises the somewhat thin outer boundary of TRe section and the remainder is composed of two cotyledons separated by the first "true" leaves of the embryo. [Pg.253]

A unique approach has been taken by 3M, which has developed a family of nanostructured whisker-like nonconductive materials as supports for Pt or Pt alloys. Electronic conductivity is achieved by sputter-coating a continuous... [Pg.36]

A scanning electron microscope, SEM (JEOL JSM-5300, JEOL USA, Inc., Peabody MA) was used to examine the morphology of dentin surfaces treated with solutions of various PIDAA derivatives at concentrations of 0.1 and 0.3 mol/L. The surfaces of dentin discs were treated for 60 s, placed in a vacuum desiccator (2.7 kPa) at room temperature for 24 h, gold sputter coated, and examined by SEM. [Pg.297]

More recently, Kaneco et al. evaluated Pb, Ag, Au, Pd, Cu, and Ni sputter-coated p-InP electrodes [115], Whilst the onset potentials for C02 reduction were less negative than those observed at the corresponding metal electrodes, the authors chose an extremely negative potential of-2.55 V (versus SCE) for their studies. By using a LiOH/methanol electrolyte, they examined the dependence of the amount of metal deposited on the current efficiency of C02 reduction, where the main... [Pg.307]

Levels of lactate in buttermilk and yoghurt (and blood) were estimated using disposable sensors formed from screen-printed graphite laminated between two polymer sheets [18]. Platinum (deposited by sputter-coating) was the transducing surface. Layers of Nation were added to reduce interference and were surmounted by lactate oxidase in a mixture of polyethyleneimine and poly (carbamoyl) sulphonate hydrogel. The samples were measured in stirred buffer. A good correlation between biosensor results and those obtained with an enzyme kit was claimed but the data had a considerable amount of scatter—if the enzyme kit is taken as the reference method then a more severe analysis of the biosensor results [33] would not have shown them in a... [Pg.673]

Microscopy. Scanning electron microscopy was run on resin samples using a AMR 1200 Scanning Electron Microscope. The samples were mounted on the stub using double stick tape and then sputter coated with gold. [Pg.212]

Hair fibers are mounted with double-stick tape on aluminum stubs, sputter coated with a 4 nm layer of gold, and examined at 20 kV at a working distance of approximately 15 mm in our hands on a Hitachi S3000N VP Scanning Electron Microscope (83). [Pg.207]
