Foam tapes

Table 2 indicates that only the acrylic foam tapes comjjete in adhesive strength comparison in any realistic sense with the conventional adhesives. [Pg.468]

An example of the contribution of polar interactions between an acrylic PSA and a substrate is shown in Fig. 6. By copolymerizing iso-octylacrylate and acrylic acid, using a monomer ratio of, respectively, 95/5 and 90/10, two otherwise identical PSAs were made. The PSAs were laminated to both sides of a foam core to make an attachment tape as used in the automotive industry for the application of body side moldings to a car. One side of the foam tape was laminated against an aluminum foil backing. The other side was laminated against an automotive paint-coated panel to make the final test sample. The test sample was allowed to... [Pg.489]

In near infrared spectroscopic (NIR) cure rate studies, a small amount (10-15 g) of sample was manually combined using the indicated ratio of materials. After the bubbles had been removed via centrifugation, the mixture (about 1 g) was poured onto a microscope slide prepared with a 1 mm spacer window cut from foam tape with adhesive on both sides. Another slide was placed on top, and a zero-time measurement was made on the Cary 14 spectrophotometer. The absorption at 2.205A was used as a measure of the amount of unreacted epoxy resin. The sample was kept at the appropriate temperature and spectra were measured at the indicated times. [Pg.100]

Corporation (Golden, CO). The reactor, 1.22m wide by 2.44 m, consisted of a fiberglass-reinforced plastic I-beam frame. A transparent fluoropolymer film, treated to accept adhesives, formed the front and back windows of the reactor. The film windows were attached to the reactor frame with foam tape coated on both sides with an acrylic adhesive. The catalyst, titanium dioxide (Degussa P25), was coated onto a structured, perforated polypropylene tubular packing commonly used in oil-water separators. The Ti02 was suspended in water as a slurry and sprayed onto the tubular supports with a new paint sprayer until the supports were opaque. Fluid modeling of airflow flnough the reactor showed that a 5.1 cm PVC manifold, located at the inlet and outlet of flie reactor, would provide an even flow distribution. Small (0.6 cm) holes, drilled into flie manifold at one inch intervals, provided the even flow distribution required for efficient contact of the contaminated air with the catalyst. [Pg.1561]

In instrumented creep tests taken to failure, one learns not only how long specimens last but also how deformation increases throughout the creep process. For lap joints, delay times have been seen in creep tests, probably due to the increasing uniformity of the shear stress state, as predicted by the shear lag model as the creep compliance of the adhesive increases with time. In other situations, no such delay time is seen. A schematic illustration of a creep curve for an adhesive bond consisting of a butt joint bonded with a pressure sensitive foam tape is shown in Fig. 2, exhibiting classical primary, secondary and tertiary regions of creep behaviour. [Pg.117]

Pressure-sensitive adhesives are specifically formulated for good flexibility, tack, and peel strength. Most pressure-sensitive adhesives are applied to plastic, paper, foil, or fibrous material as suitable backings. Pressure-sensitive tapes are made with adhesive on one side or on both sides (double-faced tape). Double-faced foam tapes are available to suit applications where substrates have surface irregularities, contours, and significant gaps in the bond line. [Pg.462]

Insulation Provides thermal insulation for bore fluid. Insulation layers are manufactured from foam tapes or solid insulation. [Pg.674]

Other types of neoprene-containing sealants include a neoprene/Hypalon gun-grade caulk and a pressure-sensitive neoprene foam tape for mounting molding and trim on autos, boats, and trailers. [Pg.621]
