Double-sided sticky tape

For SEM examination the same amount of the starting suspension was filtered on a polycarbonate filter, 0.2 /am pore size and 25 mm diameter, placed on a backing cellulosic filter of 1.2 /am pore size, in order to facilitate a more uniform distribution of particles on the filter. A small portion of the particles-laden filter was then mounted on SEM stubs by double sided sticky tape and then coated by gold of about 300 nm thick in a sputter coater [11]. [Pg.337]

Double-sided sticky tapes are popular for the attachment of samples. Various brands and types are available. For many routine measurements conventional tape is sufficient however, some thicker variants may lead to problems when pressure is exerted to fix the samples, since the tape will relax and hence cause substantial drift in the AFM image. A similar effect may be present as a result of thermal expansion, when a cold AFM is operated with high resolution in the first hour(s)... [Pg.49]

The AFM is set up for a standard CM experiment (Sect. 3.2.2). To be able to address the morphology and roughness on various lateral length scales, a large area scanner is selected. After the sample (film firmly attached to the sample puck with double sided sticky tape) has been mounted, care has to be taken to note the relative orientation of cantilever and characteristic film directions (e.g. the machine direction). [Pg.168]

Thin films with a thickness of 50 pm of a commercially available PS-PB-PS triblock copolymer (e.g. from BASF, 74% PS, 26% PB) are prepared by solution casting from a 3% solution in toluene onto TEFLON -foil, which is placed in a precleaned petri-dish. The solvent is slowly evaporated over a period of 2 weeks. Residual solvent is then removed and films are annealed under reduced pressure in a vacuum oven at 120°C (48 h). Finally, the films are removed from the support and are uniaxially stretched at a constant strain rate of 0.1 s 1 beyond the yield point at room temperature. ARM investigations are carried out on prestretched samples that are mechanically clamped or fixated by double-sided sticky tape onto the AFM sample holder. [Pg.170]

Cover a glass slide with 3 cm of double-sided sticky tape. [Pg.144]

Once embryos are sitting on double-sided sticky tape, position embryos such that their ventral side is facing up. [Pg.146]

Solvent-free sample preparation. Solvent-free sample preparation is a relatively new approach termed solvent-free or solvent-less MALDI [56]. In this approach, the matrix, sample, and a salt are mixed together in an appropriate proportion and ground with either a mortar and pestle or a ball mill. The dry mixture is applied to the MALDI target with a double-sided sticky tape. The solvent-free procedure is more universal because it may also be used with insoluble analytes. [Pg.42]

An application of ATR IR microscopy in forensic science is provided in Fig. 4.38. It involves detecting cosmetic treatments found on hair fiber surfaces [237]. If this sample were to be analyzed by the transmission method, the spectrum would show predominantly protein from the bulk fiber. However, by jx-FTIR ATR spectroscopy, the contribution of the hair coating can be distinguished. For this example, a hair fiber was mounted on a glass slide and held in place at both ends with double-sided sticky tape. By placing the sample on a glass slide, the illumination from below the sample can be used to aid in viewing the sample with the survey mode of the ATR objective. A ZnSe IRE (n = 2.4)... [Pg.349]

With the plates on a clean flat surface, start attaching the double-sided sticky tape on the short side of the plate and apply strong pressure with a cylindrical object (metal rod or suitable pen). Drag the object firmly across the plate to attach the tape. Ensure no air bubbles become trapped between the tape and the plates. [Pg.408]

Hearle and Cross [357] broke thermoplastic fibers at normal rates of extension in an Instron and examined them in the SEM. They developed a special stub for mounting the fiber ends. A step was cut from the circular stub and an elliptical hole cut in the remaining stub and a screw placed in the cut step. This provides a space in the center of the stub for fibers to be mounted on double sided sticky tape. The screw is used to attach the cut step portion to the remainder of the stub. [Pg.148]

The viscous liquid samples were layered between two quartz plates (4.5 X 7.5 cm) with double-sided sticky tape attached around the periphery of the plates. The tape does not interfere with the sample s shrinkage since the reactive material adheres strongly to the glass plates and causes the tape to... [Pg.368]

The probe station should have some means for holding down the device under test. A common approach is to use vacuum hold down, but many probe stations have platens with vacuum ports spaced to hold down whole wafers rather than diced parts. It is possible to block some of the outlying vacuum ports with tape so that sufficient vacuum can be developed in the inner vacuum ports to hold down the die. Alternatively, the die can be held in place with double-sided sticky tape, but this tape can leave a residue on the probe station platen and the back of the part under test. [Pg.137]

The nitrocellulose substrate was attached to the solid substrate 1 (Figure 4.19) using double-sided sticky tape, ensuring that no air bubbles could be trapped. [Pg.392]
