Coordinated Research Projects

In the next subsection we will discuss the two external advisory groups for Unit activities. The next subsection will then describe Coordinated Research Projects, the primary method used to fulfil the goals of the Unit. We then give a description of the products available to the fusion research community through the A+M Unit. These include the electronic databases, publications, as well as some computational capabilities. 

The primary means of generating new data is through Coordinated Research Projects (CRP). A typical CRP is a three to five year project with a specific focus. The CRPs are established in response to a specific need. The topic is frequently suggested through the IFRC Subcommittee meeting.

The SIPCDE is an expert research body of the MOH whose responsibility is to control all stages of preclinical and clinical review, provide material and work for the SPEC, interact with the SPPC, plan and coordinate research projects, as well as to perform pharmaceutical reviews of generic products.

The overall objective of the coordinated research project (CRP) was to develop reliable methodologies and evaluative capabilities needed to make prudent selections among therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals of potential value for clinical treatment. As part of the coordinated research project (CRP) on comparative evaluation of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals, the ior-CEAl-(scFv)2 fragment and the somatostatin peptide analogues ior-P1394 and [DOTA,Tyr ]octreotate (DOTATATE) were evaluated as targeted agents. The results obtained from in vitro and in vivo studies deomonstrate the clinical usefulness of these radiolabelled biomolecules as radiotherapeutic agents. 

The development of new and improved approaches for targeted radionuclide therapy is currently one of the most intensively pursued areas of radiopharmaceutical research. This field has, in particular, been stimulated by recent successes such as those achieved with radiolabelled anti-CD20 antibodies and radiolabelled somatostatin analogues. The main goal of this coordinated research project was to identify and validate procedures that could be used for the preclinical assessment of therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals in order to refine their performance. Additionally, the aim of the work was to compare potential lead candidates prior to undertaking clinical trials. 

This work describes in some detail those parameters that were identified, at the start of the coordinated research project, as being important in this assessment process. Since a decision was taken at the start of the project to concentrate research on the model peptide DOTA-Tyr -octreotate (DOTATATE), examples from the field of radiolabelled neuropeptide research are included. Table 2.8 presents another example of marked differences of iodine levels in daily diet samples in different countries, using the results achieved within a WHO and IAEA coordinated research project on dietary intake of several important minor and trace elements in diets consumed in a number of developed and developing countries (Dermelj etal., 1990).

The review of the experience gained in Russia in the field of fast reactors with sodium coolant is given in the report. The information on fast reactors operating in the Russian Federation (BR-10, BOR-60, BN-600) is presented their current status, further prospects, and basic indices achieved by the facilities. The principal results of operation of test facilities and power plants with fast reactors in Russia are suimnarized. Necessity in implementation of special work on preservation and generalization of experience gained in the field of fast reactors have been analyzed, as well as possibility of or nizing a coordinated research project in this area. In particular, possible approaches to the orgarnzation of activities on systematization of published information on fast reactors. 

However, this work implementation is obviously impossible within the framework of a meeting. In this view, proposal has appeared to study the possibility of organization of the Coordinated Research Project (CRP) on this issue. 

So, what parts and directions of this work could be implemented within the framework of the Coordinated Research Project ... 

The scope and nature of the proposed work make it possible to reliably implement it within the framework of Coordinate Research Project.

Correlation between PSA level and evidence of Metastasis in Bone Scintigrams (1996 - 1998), as a Coordinated Research Project of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The aim of this project was to establish the physiological levels of PSA in the Cypriot Population and to investigate if there is a correlation between the PSA level in pathological patients and the indication of metastasis in their Bone Scintigrams.
