Chemical conventions

The Ksp expressions are based on balanced equations for saturated solutions of slightly soluble ionic compounds. The exponents in the K p expressions match the corresponding coefficients in the chemical equation. The coefficient 1 is not written, following chemical convention. [Pg.431]

In the mathematical theory of networks valence is defined as the number of links terminating at a node, and it was in this sense that the term was introduced into chemistry. However, chemists were later forced to distinguish between a chemical valence (bonding power) and a coordinative valence (number of bonds). They chose to keep the term valence for the chemical valence and introduced the term coordination number for the coordinative valence. This book follows the chemical convention. The term valence is always used in the sense of bonding power unless otherwise stated, and coordination number is used to indicate the number of bonds. [Pg.20]

The structure is not compliant with chemical conventions and the compound transitions to the Invalid State. [Pg.74]

The structure is edited by the chemist and is not compliant with chemical conventions, but the chemistry intelligence logic can automatically correct them and the compound remains in the Corrected State. [Pg.76]

Some books and journals follow IUPAC recommendations for representations of various chemical conventions. Some specify the use of ISO standards. Others are less stringent as long as the manuscript is consistent in usage within itself. Always consult the author guidelines. [Pg.255]

The enthalpy of a pure liquid solvent at temperature T and at pressure P (ordinarily, 1 bar) is set equal to zero, unless the solvent participates in a chemical reaction with the solute, in which case the usual chemical conventions are applied to specify the enthalpy of interaction. [Pg.265]

ILO Chemical Convention 170 and Recommendation 177 The purpose of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention 170 and Recommendation 177 concerning safety in the use of chemicals at work is to protect workers who use chemicals in their workplace. The Convention, which came into force in November 1993, covers hazard classification and communication of hazards, chemical identity, and precautions on labels. It also requires that chemical safety data sheets for hazardous chemicals be provided to employers. Chemical suppliers are responsible for ensuring that chemicals... [Pg.510]

You discovered in this section that adipic acid is used to make nylon, but it is also used to make paint, synthetic lubricants, and plasticizers (substances that make plastics more flexible). Adipic acid is one of the important industrial chemicals conventionally produced from benzene, but recently a new process has been developed that forms adipic acid from the sugar glucose, which is much safer, instead of benzene. If you were a worker in a chemical plant making adipic acid, you would certainly prefer working with sugar instead of benzene. [Pg.351]

Harandi 1993). The hydrocarbons produced in this process are aliphatic and aromatic, and are predominantly in the gasoline range (C4 to Ci0). The gasoline thus produced is chemically conventional, with unleaded research octane numbers of 90 to 95. Activity, selectivity and catalyst decay strongly depend on the structure of the zeolite. [Pg.299]

There is no doubt that the part of LHASA which makes the most immediate impact on chemists is the graphics. He may draw in the structure that he is interested in analyzing using standard chemical conventions and all communication from the program to him is via structural diagrams. This manner of interfacing with the chemist-user was chosen because it has been shown that the rate at which he can assimilate chemical data is maximized if it is in the notation with which he is most familiar. [Pg.5]

The grafting of entirely different monomer on the polymeric backbone can be performed by different pathways of generation of the free radical sites (Fig. 3.3) on the preformed polymer. These techniques include chemical/conventional or radiation-induced techniques for grafting. [Pg.48]
