A study which aimed to detect a common denominator in individuals diagnosed with autoimmune syndrome induced by adjuvants (AISA) after hepatitis B vaccination, retrospectively reviewed medical records of 114 patients from across the United States. Shared features amongst these AISA patients included a history of autoimmxme disease and appearance of AEs during immxmisation [5 =].

The most frequent adverse effects are flu-like symptoms increased body temperature, feeling ill, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, convulsion, dizziness, hair thinning and depression. Erythema, pain and hardness on the spot of injection are also frequently observed. Interferon therapy may cause immunosuppression. Also various interferon induced autoimmune syndromes were reported. 

Certain autoimmune syndromes can be induced by drugs. Paraneoplastic autoimmune syndromes. Autoimmune diseases that are caused by tumour-induced perturbations of the immune system with damaging effects on various organ systems (e.g. cancer-associated retinopathy, paraneoplastic neurological syndromes, paraneoplastic cutaneous syndromes). Minocycline is associated with a relatively high incidence of hepatotoxicity. A number of different drugs have been shown to induce autoimmunity in susceptible individuals. A syndrome similar to that of SLE was described in a patient administered sulfadiazine in 1945 by Hoffman (see Bigazzi, 1988). Sulfonamides were one of the first classes of drugs identified to induce an autoimmune response, while to date, over 40 other drugs have been associated with a similar syndrome. 

Bcl-2 B cell lymphoma protein 2 (Bcl-2) is a family of proteins that regulate apoptosis (programmed cell death). Apoptosis is a necessary process whereby aged or damaged cells are replaced by new cells. Dysfunction of the apoptosis process results in disease inhibition of apoptosis results in cancer, autoimmune disorder, and viral infection, whereas increased apoptosis gives rise to neurodegenerative disorders, myelodysplastic syndromes, ischemic injury, and toxin-induced liver disease.
