Flu-like symptoms

Common side effects of interferons are flu-like symptoms, fever, myelosuppression, and skin-reactions. [Pg.411]

Inhibition of immunomodulatory cytokines (Fig. 1) Anti-T-cell receptor antibodies Muromonab (OKT3, Orthoclone ) binds to the CD3 complex of the T-cell receptor and induces depletion of T-lymphocytes. It is applied to prevent acute rejection of kidney, liver, and heart allografts. Rapid side effects (within 30-60 min) include a cytokine release syndrome with fever, flu-like symptoms, and shock. Late side effects include an increased risk of viral and bacterial infections and an increased incidence of lymphproliferative diseases due to immunosuppression. [Pg.411]

Common adverse effects include headache, nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, rhinitis, and flu-like symptoms. The most serious adverse reactions are related to respiratory effects and include severe bronchospasm that may lead to death. [Pg.123]

Note that only a 1-week supply of clozapine is dispensed at a time. The drug is obtained through a special program designed to ensure the required blood monitoring. Weekly WBC laboratory tests are required. Immediately report any signs of weakness, fever, sore throat, malaise, or flu-like symptoms to the primary care provider. [Pg.302]

Adverse reactions of zafirlukast (Accolate) include headache, dizziness, myalgia, pain, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and fever. Montelukast (Singulair) administration may cause headache, dizziness, dyspepsia, flu-like symptoms, cough, abdominal pain, and fatigue Adverse reactions seen with the... [Pg.338]

Patient package insert and instructions are available with the product. The primary health care provider should be notified if any of the following occurs abnormal or excessive bleeding, severe cramping, abnormal or odorous vaginal discharge, fever or flu-like symptoms, pain, genital lesions, or missed periods. [Pg.554]

The reason for this warning is that abrupt cessation of SSRIs produces withdrawal symptoms in about 20 per cent of patients. Symptoms of withdrawal from antidepressant medication include gastrointestinal disturbances (abdominal cramping and pain, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting), flu-like symptoms, headaches, sleep disturbances, dizziness, blurred vision, numbness, electric-shock sensations, twitches and tremors. Abrupt withdrawal can also produce symptoms of depression and anxiety, which can occur within hours of the first missed dose of the drug.11 Withdrawal symptoms are sometimes mistaken for a relapse, leading patients to resume antidepressant medication and to conclude that they need it in order to remain free of depression. Technically, this is not considered addiction , but it does seem awfully close. [Pg.153]

Interferon -biologic agent -flu-like symptoms-malaise, myalgias, fatigue, fever -nausea and vomiting—mild -anorexia -bone marrow suppression -mucocutaneous effects (stomatitis, mucositis) -cardiovascular effects (arrhythmias, hypotension) -mental status changes (confusion, lethargy, psychosis) -renal impairment (proteinuria) -elevation in transaminase levels... [Pg.174]

Signs and Symptoms Typically biphasic, the first phase consists of nonspecific flu-like symptoms that last about a week. This is followed by a 1-7 day asymptomatic period. The third and final phase is an abrupt onset of encephalitis, which affects the central nervous system phase producing tremors, dizziness, and altered sensorium. Recovery is prolonged. [Pg.537]

Signs and Symptoms Flu-like symptoms that may progress to pneumonitis, respiratory failure, renal failure, arterial blood clots (thrombosis), cardiac arrest, and meningoencephalitis. [Pg.548]

Signs and Symptoms Symptoms include self-limiting conjunctivitis with tearing and pain. May progress to a generalized illness with "flu-like" symptoms including elevated temperature, chills, and sore throat. [Pg.562]

Signs and Symptoms Flu-like symptoms with fever, headache, drowsiness, cough, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, weakness, problems with swallowing, and blurred vision that may progress to encephalitis with drowsiness, disorientation, severe hypertension, rapid heart rate (tachycardia), very high temperature, convulsions, and coma. Encephalitis may be delayed up to 4 months postexposure. Nipah virus is also known to cause relapse encephalitis. [Pg.563]

Signs and Symptoms Produces flu-like symptoms including headache, fever, eye pain, a vague feeling of bodily discomfort (malaise), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat as well as pain in the limbs and back. Blisters and/or lesions resembling herpes virus may appear in the mouth, throat, and occasionally on the hands. Illness may produce a prolonged mental depression. [Pg.584]

Common side effects noted include injection site reactions, weakness, dizziness, weight loss and flu-like symptoms, with depression being the most common reason for treatment discontinuation. ViraferonPeg is manufactured and marketed by Schering Plough. [Pg.227]

The most common side effects noted included injection site reactions and flu-like symptoms with serious potential side effects including depression, as well as liver and blood abnormalities. Rebif is manufactured and marketed by Serono Inc. [Pg.230]

Administration of IFN-P also characteristically causes flu-like symptoms. More serious side effects, however, are sometimes noted, including ... [Pg.235]

The only common side effect associated with IFN-y is the characteristic flu-like symptoms. However, in rare instances and at high doses, adverse clinical reactions have been noted. These have included heart failure, central nervous system complications (confusion disorientation, Parkinsonian-like symptoms), metabolic complications (e.g. hyperglycaemia), and various other symptoms. [Pg.235]

Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that, when transmitted to humans, causes listeriosis. Listeriosis is characterized by flu-like symptoms, but can cause swelling of the brain and induce abortions. [Pg.249]

The major clinical study underpinning product approval was a randomized, double blind study in which 71 CTCL patients were administered the product at one of two dosage levels (9 or 18 [tg kg 1 day ) overall, 30 per cent of patients experienced an objective tumour response. Serious side effects potentially associated with product administration include acute hypersensitivity-type reactions, vascular leak syndrome and visual impairment. Additional adverse reactions include flu-like symptoms, headache, hyper- or hypo-tension, as well as digestive upset. Ontak is manufactured by Seragen Inc. and is distributed by Ligand Pharmaceuticals. [Pg.251]
