Applications—High Temperature

The packing temperature limitation for most nonmetallic materials is in the range of 204 to 288°C (400 to 550°F), the maximum temperature for metallic packing is around 480°C (900°F), Teflon should not be exposed to temperatures above 230°C (450°F), Graphoil (pure carbon) can be used from -240 [Pg.227]

MI Cables (mineral insulated cables. Fig. 10-181) are the electric heat tracers of choice for high-temperature applications. High-temperature applications are generally considered to maintain temperatures above 250°F or exposure temperatures above 420°F where self-regulating heaters cannot be used. MI cable consists of one or two heating wires, magnesium oxide insulation (from whence it gets its... [Pg.1015]

Applications High-temperature liquid chromatography with packed-capillary columns, nonaqueous mobile phases, and ELSD and ICP-MS detection, has been developed specifically as a robust analytical tool for the analysis of high-MW polymer additives [731,738]. Dissolving such moderately polar, heavy compounds with low water solubility at ambient temperature usually... [Pg.253]

Table 3.3.1 also indicates suitable power ranges of the various fuel cell types and some of their typical applications. PEMFCs are clearly the most versatile class with strong focus on portable and automotive applications. High-temperature fuel cells are more often employed for stationary power generation. [Pg.169]

Chlorinated poly (vinyl chloride) (CPVCy PVCCy PVC-HT). Manufactured from PVC by chlorination up to a final chlorine content of about 60%. It is more diflScult to process than unplasticized PVC but its products have a long-term stability at almost 100 °C. Applications high-temperature pipes, fittings, industrial chemical equipment. [Pg.15]

Polyimides, Common name of polymers characterized by repeated imide groups in the macromolecule (Fig. 1.4). Their structure corresponds to that of the step-ladder polymers. Thermally stable infusible insoluble thermosets. Their intermediate prepolymers can be shaped. Modified polyimides have repeated, mainly aliphatic, ester or amide groups in the main chain besides the imide units, in order to facilitate processing. Examples of applications high-temperature electric insulating materials... [Pg.22]

In many aerospace applications high temperature demands are made on electrical insulation, e.g., connectors, wire enamels, potting compounds, and motor windings. Enamels for wire coatings can be made from condensa-... [Pg.341]

The early forms of VITON processed poorly and were hard to cure. The Kellogg chemists had discovered that their CTPE/VF2 elastomer could be cured with hexamethylene diamine carbamate which also was effective with VITON , but the compounds were very scorchy. Thermal stability of the cured products was good but poorer than the raw polymer because the curing reactions introduced olefinic bonds and a relatively unstable crosslink. More Importantly for critical sealing applications high temperature compression set fell far short of demands. Further research delivered delayed action amine type curing agents which improved processability. [Pg.392]
