DELAYED ACTION

Delayed action soHd products are designed like conventional dosage forms to release all their dmg contents at one time, but only after a delayed period. Thus, the duration of action and the blood concentration—time curve is like that of a conventional product. However, the onset time is purposely designed to be long. 

Monobutylamines are easily soluble in water and hydrocarbons and can generally be steam distilled. These properties lead to uses in soaps for water and oil emulsions, and as corrosion inhibitors in steam boiler appHcations (see Corrosion and corrosion inhibitors Emulsions). Morpholine is also extensively used as a corrosion inhibitor in steam boiler systems. In addition, it is widely used as an intermediate in the production of delayed-action mbber accelerators. 

Selenium and selenium compounds are also used in electroless nickel-plating baths, delayed-action blasting caps, lithium batteries, xeroradiography, cyanine- and noncyanine-type dyes, thin-film field effect transistors (FET), thin-film lasers, and fire-resistant functional fluids in aeronautics (see... 

Hydroxy group containing tertiary amines are also used because they become incorporated into the polymer stmcture, which eliminates odor formation ia the foam (3). Delayed-action or heat-activated catalysts are of particular interest ia molded foam appHcations. These catalysts show low activity at room temperature but become active when the exotherm builds up. In addition to the phenol salt of DBU (4), benzoic acid salts of Dabco are also used (5).

Fumaric acid is used in combination with sodium bicarbonate to create delayed-action leavening agents (something that produces carbon dioxide gas to make breads rise). Since it only dissolves in warm water, the leavening action is delayed until the bread starts to bake.
