Because self-regulating heaters are parallel heaters, they may be cut to length at any point without changing their power output per unit of length. This makes them much easier to deal with in the field. They may Be terminated, teed, or spliced in the field with hazardous-area-approved components. [Pg.1015]

MI cables can maintain temperatures up to 1200°F and withstand exposure to up to 1500°F. The major disadvantage of Ml cable is that it must be factory-fabricated to length. It is very difficiilt to terminate or splice the heater in the field. This means pipe measurements are necessary before the heaters are ordered. Also, any damage to an MI cable generally requires a complete new heater. It s not as easy to splice in a good section as with self-regulating heaters. [Pg.1015]

Despite the attractions of economic forces driving environmental protection, some cautions and failures have been noted. Firstly, the export of hazardous waste to countries where costs for treatment are lower enhances environmental risks during transport and has the potential for transboundary export in the event of pollution. At the same time, the loss of raw material may deprive the home market of an adequate supply of feedstock for the home-based industry. Secondly, there is considerable scepticism that self-regulation of TBT-based antifoulants could be achieved in a timely manner by the shipping industry. This is an instance where the cost benehts to one industry are born by another commercial sector, notably aquaculture. Thus, protection of the marine environment is likely to be aided by economic factors but the role of government, via taxation and standard setting, is not likely to be usurped. Self regulating chromium The self-regulating chromium solutions were introduced to eliminate the need for maintaining the correct catalyst concentration by periodic analysis they depend on the addition of a sparingly soluble sulphate to the bath which supplies the correct amount of SO 4 automatically. Initially strontium sulphate (solubility approx. l-75g/l at 30°C and 21 g/1 at 40°C) was employed for this purpose. The strontium sulphate forms a layer on the bottom of the bath, which must be stirred from, time to time. A bath with a CrO, concentration of 250 g/1 would have a catalyst content of l 52g/l SrS04 and 4-35 g/1 of KjSiF. Potassium dichromate and strontium chromate have also found application as additives for the control of the saturation solubility of the catalyst. [Pg.546]

NMP with acrylates and acrylamides with TEMPO provides only very low conversions. Very low limiting conversions and broad dispersities were reported.2 Better results were obtained with DTBN (83),111 151 imidazoline (61-64)I3S and isoindoline (59) nitroxides.111 However, limiting conversions were still observed.
