Work process disturbances

Backstreaming vapor pump fluids, vapors of oils, rotary pump lubricants, and their cracking products can significantly disturb various working processes In vacuum. Therefore, It Is recommended that certain applications use pumps and devices that reliably exclude the presence of hydrocarbon vapors. [Pg.65]

The real power of the model developed in this work lies in the transient or dynamic simulations such as those necessary for control system design. The model we have developed can be used to simulate the effects on the reactor of various process disturbances and input changes. Under normal reactor operating conditions, step or pulse changes in inlet gas temperatures, concentrations, or velocity or changes in cooling rates can significantly affect... [Pg.142]

The minimum vapor flow for the entire thermally coupled system is flat over a wide range of P Pp < P < Pr. This is the reason why dividing wall columns usually work well without tight coutrol of the vapor or liquid spht betweeu both sides of the partitiou. The optimally designed fully thermally coupled system should operate with a fractional recovery of B in the top product of the prefractionator placed somewhere between points P and R. The transition spht P is located at one end of the optimal section PR, and it is not a recommended design point for normal operation because process disturbances may move the operating point outside the optimal section PR shown in Fig. 13-70. [Pg.63]

One of the most characteristic psychosocial characteristics of this type of work is the contrast between normal operation and process disturbances, when the operator is required to shift from passive supervision to rapid information processing and decision making. Another characteristic feature is the long interval between disturbances and, thereby, the low frequency of opportunities for operators to utilize, much less develop, their process skills. [Pg.350]

Observation. When determining the actual state, especially with regard to details of the work procedure, observations on site can hardly be dispensed with. Care must be taken, however, to ensure that such observation will in no way disturb or influence the work process itself. Combinations of informal observations and discussions at the workplace can be very helpful for obtaining the desired information. In certain cases more systematic methods are employed where procedures are recorded using film cameras and other equipment. [Pg.228]

Harmful energy can in fact be released due to any of a number of reasons in any case, disturbances can occur during the work process, which may result in the development of critical situations. These demand that the person who takes action react in a specific manner, in order to get a critical situation under control again or to keep the consequences at a minimum. The following chapters will deal in detail with taking action in hazardous situation. [Pg.11]

Also, when using cold processes on a downdraft table, the worker should avoid leaning over the working place or sitting too close to it, since this could disturb the flow into the exhaust and increase the spread of contaminants into the workspace. The same effects as when using fume cupboards could easily be the result (Section 10.2.3.3). [Pg.876]

Equipment and Processes Equipment and supplies should be placed in the cupboard before a procedure commences. Unnecessary equipment should be removed. High-input heat sources within a cupboard will cause convection currents that can disturb the flow and should be avoided if possible. Work should be carried out well within the cupboard, at least 150 mm from the plane of the sash whenever possible. It should not however be placed closer than 50 mm to the lower extract slot of a back baffle. Large pieces of equipment should if possible be raised 25 to 50 mm above the working surface of the cupboard to improve the flow in the cupboard. [Pg.888]

Pseudomorphism has less desirable consequences, and usually means are sought to suppress it. If the substrate has been scratched, ground or abrasively polished, or if it has been cold rolled or cold formed, the surface is left in a peculiar state. Cold working reduces the surface grain size, and produces deformed, shattered and partly reoriented metal. It may produce microcrevices between the deformed grains, and, with some processes, non-metallic impurities and oxides are embedded in the surface. The disturbed state of the substrate is copied by a pseudomorphic electrodeposit with several consequences (Fig. 12.7). One is aesthetic it has often been noted that almost invisible abrasion of the substrate develops as more prominent... [Pg.358]

A process is inherently safe in a rigorous sense, when no fluctuation or disturbance can cause an accident. To search for synthetic routes that avoid hazardous reactants, intermediates, and reaction mixtures, is an impetus to be seriously considered by chemists and process designers. Nevertheless, there will always be a need to cope with potentially hazardous materials and reaction mixtures in future process design work, the more so because process streams are expected to become potentially more dangerous in the future. The process streams will be more concentrated to increase energy efficiency, to ease purification, and to decrease the load of wastewater and spent acids. More concentrated process streams have a higher specific content of latent energy and are hence less stable. [Pg.380]

I The basic notion of feedforward control is to detect disturbances as they enter the process and make adjustments in manipulated variables so that output variables are held constant. We do not wait until the disturbance has worked its way through the process and has disturbed everything to produce an error signal. If a disturbance can be detected as it enters the process, it makes sense to take immediate action in order to compensate for its effect on the process. [Pg.383]

Unfortunately much of Ais interaction analysis work has clouded the issue of how to design an effective control system for a multivariable process. In most process control applications the problem is not setpoint responses but load responses. We want a sy stem that holds the process at the desired values in the face of load disturbances. Interaction is therefore not necessarily bad, and in fact in some systems it helps in rejecting the effects of load disturbances. Niederlinski [AIChE J 1971, Vol 17, p. 1261) showed in an early paper that the use of decouplers made the load rejection worse. [Pg.575]

It is the effective mobility that determines selectivity since the effect of the electroosmotic mobility is equal for all the sample constituents. The effective mobility can be worked out from the apparent mobility if the extent of / eof known. Several methods are applied to determine however, the procedure of applying a neutral marker is commonly used. A marker is a compound that migrates only due to the EOF (neutral). The velocity of a neutral compound represents the velocity of the EOF when no other disturbing processes such as wall adsorption occur. Using the practically obtained migration time of the neutral marker (tgoi) the velocity of the EOF can be calculated ... [Pg.24]

The pharmacopeias have worked with the ICH process to facilitate the international environment of pharmaceutical research and product registration. On the other hand, the additional situation for compendia is that the standards which they have published now apply to all of the already marketed products. In that case a company has testing history and product history in their quality control departments. These are the most conservative elements within the pharmaceutical industry as is necessary to their task. Quality control departments are reluctant to change methods when they feel that their products are properly represented by the current of tests. Therefore, a tension is ereated between trying to develop harmonized standards, which facilitate one area of activity in the world of pharmaeeutieals, and not disturbing a satisfactory marketplace. A vast amount of progress has been made in the harmonization of phar-maeopeial methods. [Pg.85]

The development conditions that are feasible for at-source processes are somewhat different from those of the centrally located facility regarding the freedom in feed materials and end products. This is especially characteristic for at-source processes, where the feed solution is dependent on optimal working conditions in the main process and therefore the composition is relatively constant and well defined. In addition, the product solution must have an accurate specification in order not to disturb the main production. So in the development work, a good knowledge of the main operation is necessary. [Pg.645]

The second part of the work involves implementing a robust controller. The key issue in the controller design is the treatment of system dynamics uncertainties and rejection of exogenous disturbances, while optimizing the flow responses and control inputs. Parameter uncertainties in the wave equation and time delays associated with the distributed control process are formally included. Finally, a series of numerical simulations of the entire system are carried out to examine the performance of the proposed controller design. The relationships among the uncertainty bound of system dynamics, the response of flow oscillation, and controller performance are investigated systematically. [Pg.357]
