U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Web Patent Databases. The Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) [72] offers free World Wide Web access, http // www.uspto.gov/main/patents.htm, to a bibliographic patent database that uses the most current patent classification system, this may not match the classification data that appears on the printed patent, and to a full-text patent database that uses the classification data that appear on the printed patent, this may not match the current classification data. The databases start with January 1, 1976, patents. The full text of a patent includes all bibliographical data (e.g., inventor s name, the patent s title, the assignee s name, etc.) and the abstract, full description of the invention, and the claims. All the words in the text of the patent are searchable. If the patent number is known, the patent, regardless of year, can be ordered from the PTO. Automated searching of 1971 to date patents is available at some of the Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries. Prior to 1971 searching can be done at the PTO facilities or at the Patent and Trademark Depository Libraries. Commercial patent search services are also available. [Pg.774]

The ISI web of science at http //www.isinet.com is a multidisciplinary database that provides web access to current and retrospective journal literature. It includes three citation databases Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. The ISI Science Citation Index (SCI ) provides access to current and retrospective bibliographic information, author abstracts, and cited references found in 3500 science and technical journals covering more than 150 disciplines. The Science Citation Index Expanded format available through the ISI Web of Science and the online version, SciSearch, cover more than 5700 journals. [Pg.152]

One other significant benefit of this technology worth mentioning is its ability to provide Web access to key applications. The Citrix MetaFrame product is a thin-client software product that extends the capabilities of server-based computing. It creates a client in the form of a Microsoft Active X control, allowing its nsers to run their Windows applications from within a standard web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape. [Pg.591]

To use an electronic resume, you must have access to the Web as well as your own e-mail account. If you don t own your own computer, you can find connected computers at a public library, a college/university, an Internet cafe, or by visiting a friend or relative who owns a computer. It is not advisable to use the Web access or e-mail address at your current place of employment for your job search. [Pg.59]

Several useful sites for doing RNA structure analysis are available on the web. Most of the tasks described below can be performed with the Vienna RNA web server [3] at http / / rna. tbi. uni vie. ac. at /. Currently, it offers web access to the RNAfold, RNAalif old, and RNAinverse programs whose command line usage is shown below. [Pg.180]

Which channels should be addressed or integrated From stores to mailing to web access to call centers there is a variety of options, and the prioritization should be clear. Most companies address channels that are new or underperforming in order to create early success stories before addressing the key channels. [Pg.307]

Biblioscape is published by CG Information, founded by scientists specifically to manage scientific and electronic information. Biblioscape is a suite of products with different sets of features designed for a variety of users, including undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and librarians. Options include Web access, intranet, and freeware editions. More than 1000 output styles are available, including the ACS journal styles. [Pg.327]

There has been a rapid proliferation of commercial search interfaces, such as DataStar and STN International. STN may deserve special mention since it is a science information service operated by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) in North America, Fachinformationszentrum-Karlsruhe (FIZ-K) in Europe, and Japan Association for International Chemical Information (JAICI) in Japan. It is available as online subscriber access to 220 databases (STN Express) and as web access (STN on the Web for experienced searchers and STN Easy for infrequent searchers). See www.cas.org/stn. html and/or www.stn-international.de/. Since Internet search techniques depend on the interface available, no detailed explanations are given here. There are several published guides to database searches for chemical and physical properties, but the situation is evolving rapidly and it is recommended that you consult a reference librarian for information about the current situation concerning search interfaces at the library you use. [Pg.703]

In 2009, there were two ways to access from a client version installed on a computer or via web access. The client version is being phased out as the web version is being developed. Both versions have the same functionality. Advantages of SciFinder include the ability to combine answer sets and the ability to see all the substances linked to an abstract in a grid layout. Clicking on a substance structure or registry number allows the user to modify the structure for future searches or to explore reactions. SciFinder also provides access to the full text of the article through the ChemPort Connection. This allows the user to directly access the article when permissions for access are enabled or to purchase the article when they are not enabled. [Pg.9]

Illustrations with organic structural formulae have been used widely. In depicting sugar rings. Mills formulae have been used if the conformation is not known with confidence, otherwise conformational structures are drawn. Ribbon diagrams of various carbohydrate-active proteins with known structures are available from protein databases. Their reproduction in this book would have increased its cost and, at a time when all beginning researchers have Web access, only marginally increased its usefulness. If the reader wants to know what, say, a GH6 cellulase looks like, he or she should go to CAZy, the wonderful resource for the whole scientific community started by Bernard Henrissat and maintained by him and Pedro Coutinho, and click on the links in the 3D column. The protein can then be viewed in various downloadable viewers. [Pg.759]
