Science citation index

Science Citation Index (SCI) is a combination of three indexes which provide coverage of all the important publications in the physical sciences. SCI is published every two months and is cumulated annually. There are cumulative indexes covering the period 1945-1979. It includes coverage of all of the major chemistry journals. [Pg.266]

The Source Index lists the bibliographic details for the publications for each author/organization. [Pg.266]

How to Use Beilstein, Beilstein Institute, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1978. [Pg.266]

The Permuterm Index is based on combinations of keywords in the titles of the articles published in the journals which are covered by SCI. For example under the keyword epoxide will be a list of other keywords, such as stereoselective, which occur in association with epoxide. For each pairing there is a list of authors names, and looking these up in the Source Index will lead to the references for the original work. [Pg.267]

The citation index is an extremely useful tool and we recommend that you carry out a search for every key paper you come across. You can also use it to find out who is referring to your own work. [Pg.267]

Publications of this kind are described as non-original. They are abstracting services and handbooks that catch the primary literature, condense the important contents, and make this information available (searchable). Secondary literature is not evaluated and is provided in both printable and electronic forms. Examples are Gmelin, Beilstein, Citations Chemisches Zentralblatt, Chemical Abstracts, or Science Citation Index handbooks include Houben-Weyl, and Landolt Bomstein. [Pg.239]

SCISEARCH contains bibliographic citations (links) to publications in science and technology. The database represents the electronic online version of the expanded Science Citation Index (SCI) and parts from the Current Contents of the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). More than 5900 science and technical journals are included in the database with more than 20 million records (October, 2002). Searches can be performed on the bibliographic data, along with where, and how often, an author or publication is dted. [Pg.241]

Citation Searching. In the scholarly Hterature, authors cite earHer pubHcations that relate to the work being reported, thus a subject relationship exists between the citing and cited Hterature. This relationship has formed the basis for the Science Citation Index and related products, developed by the Institute for Scientific Information. Known as Scisearch in its on-line version, the Science Citation Index has become an important information retrieval tool in the second half of the twentieth century. It has been used for straightforward subject searching, in which mode it complements traditional indexed databases and indexes. It has also become a popular tool for hihliometric studies of various sorts, such as attempts to measure the relative impact of research carried out by different individuals or organizations, or the relative impact of pubHcations in different journals. [Pg.58]

A protein with the innocuous name p53 is one of the most frequently cited biological molecules in the Science Citation Index. The "p" in p53 stands for protein and "53" indicates a molecular mass of 53 kDa. The p53 protein plays a fundamental role in human cell growth and mutations in this protein are frequently associated with the formation of tumors. It is estimated that of the 6.5 million people diagnosed with one or another form of cancer each year about half have p53 mutations in their tumor cells and that the vast majority of these mutations are single point mutations. [Pg.166]

Polymer journals are very plentiful and most of them are relatively broad in coverage. Examples - Polymer the international journal for the science and technology of polymers). Progress in Polymer Science and New Polymeric Materials. To repeat a statement made in Chapter 2 As late as I960, only four journals were devoted exclusively to polymers - two in English, one in German and one in Russian. Now, however, the field is saturated a survey in 1994 came up with 57 journal titles devoted to polymers that could be found in the Science Citation Index, and this does not include minor journals that were not cited. ... [Pg.516]

The 1961 book appeared 30-40 times per year in the Science Citation Index in the 1970s and between 1990 and 1992 still 16 times per year on average. [Pg.459]

Numerical simulations. Locate one research publication that makes use of the kinsim program, by tracing Ref. 30 in Science Citation Index. Examine the data to check the match between experiment and model. In particular, study the differences between the results and those expected for a simpler kinetic system to ascertain why the complex treatment was needed. Report on how well the proposed model accounts for the complications. [Pg.123]

The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), besides publishing Current Contents (p. 1611) and the Science Citation Index (p. 1637), also publishes Index Chemicus (formerly called Current Abstracts of Chemistry and Index Chemicus). This publication, begun in 1960 and appearing weekly, is devoted to printing structural formulas of all new compounds appearing in more than 100 journals, along with equations to show how they were synthesized and an author s summary of the work. Each issue contains five indexes author. [Pg.1622]

A relevant citation not only provides the needed content, that is, data and information, it also contains clues to find other relevant citations. The author(s) may have published other relevant articles that can be found with an author search. Future authors publishing on this same topic may have cited this article in their own publication. Science Citation Index provides cited reference searching. The citation can be used as a Rosetta stone to determine the appropriate index term(s) for each bibliographical database searched. Some databases now offer a search command, find related articles, that automates this process. [Pg.786]

The ISI web of science at http //www.isinet.com is a multidisciplinary database that provides web access to current and retrospective journal literature. It includes three citation databases Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. The ISI Science Citation Index (SCI ) provides access to current and retrospective bibliographic information, author abstracts, and cited references found in 3500 science and technical journals covering more than 150 disciplines. The Science Citation Index Expanded format available through the ISI Web of Science and the online version, SciSearch, cover more than 5700 journals. [Pg.152]

According to the Science Citation Index, reference [3] was cited 180 times in the period in between the years 1980 and 1984, and the reaction was used as the key step in almost a hundred "asymmetric syntheses". The method is not only of academic interest, but has also found application in industry and the Upjohn company uses it at the multikilogram scale in a reactor of more than 2000 L [4]. [Pg.278]

A catalogue record for this book is available from the British Library This serial is covered by The Science Citation Index. [Pg.2]

It is impossible to discuss all papers which have appeared on the subjects included in this review (in order to keep it within reasonable limits) most of the important papers are included, and this review should give the reader an insight in the state of the art of solid state infra-red spectroscopy. The attention of the reader is drawn to the existence of Science Citation Index if a reference of this paper is used as a leading reference, Science Citation Index will quickly yield a list of other works which have cited the particular reference, enabling him to do a relatively complete literature search in a short time. [Pg.62]

Multidisciplinary index to the literature of science and technology, including animal and plant science, biochemistry, drug research, experimental medicine, and microbiology. Unique feature is indexing cited papers. Corresponds to the printed Science Citations Index... [Pg.29]

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology is abstracted or indexed regularly in Chemical Abstracts, Biological Abstracts, Current Contents, Science Citation Index, Excerpta Medica, Index Medicus, and appropriate related compendia. [Pg.1227]

H. H. Jaffe (1919-1989)297 was professor of chemistry at the University of Cincinnati. His research interests were quantum chemistry, the basicity of weak bases, spectroscopy, excited state chemistry, and the Hammett equation, of which he wrote a comprehensive review article in 1953.298 At one time, according to Science Citation Index, this was the most cited article in the chemical literature. [Pg.113]

This search was carried out using ISI s Science Citation Index database (i.e. not including the Social Sciences or Humanities) for Articles, Reviews, Notes and Letters only. [Pg.674]
