The tank was designed for a 10-year life (or 2500 machine cycles) and had to satisfy the following general requirements  [Pg.106]

The tank base was domed inwards and had deep ribs on the outside to give maximum stiffness to the base and distribute the load on the bearing to the outside diameter of the tank. As many radial ribs as possible were included in the base within the confines of the various fixtures such as motor mounting, heater aperture etc. Ten ribs were incorporated and made to extend around the tank in the form of shallow side ribbing. Small cut-outs were made at the corner edges of the ten ribs to facilitate location of the tanks when stacking. A shallow circular rib was also included in the base towards the periphery for increased stiffness. [Pg.106]

Securing brackets for balance weights, motor, and damping plates were made 8.8 mm thick for increased stiffness. [Pg.106]

Various other ribs were incorporated in the tank to channel away water in the event of leaks, an important safety requirement. [Pg.106]

It may be noted that the periphery of the open end of the tank was circular to facilitate sealing and also this aperture was eccentric to the drum axis so as to allow space for the heater. The general layout is shown in Fig. 9.1. [Pg.106]

In air conditioning (qv) of closed spaces, a wider latitude in design features can be exercised (23,24). Blowers are used to pass room or cabin air through arrays of granules or plates. Efficiencies usuaHy are 95% or better. The primary limiting factor is the decreased rate of absorption of carbon dioxide. However, an auxHiary smaH CO2 sorption canister can be used. Control of moisture entering the KO2 canister extends the life of the chemical and helps maintain the RQ at 0.82. [Pg.487]

A 165-MW-class gas turbine/generator has been introduced by another manufacturer. This machine, also developed by scaling up a proven design, features a simple-cycle efficiency of 37.5% a turbine inlet temperature of 1235°C a pressure ratio of 30 1, up from 16 1 on the previous generation and an output of 165 MW for gas fuel firing under International Standards Organization (ISO) conditions (101 kPa, 15°C (14.7 psia, 59°F)). A combined-cycle facihty based around this machine could achieve efficiencies up to 58% or a heat rate of about 6209 kj/kWh (5885 Btu/kWh). [Pg.16]

The vessel design features a Chinese hat-like conical core stopper above the underflow sump, which is there to prevent the vortex from reaching the latter and reentraining the settled soHds. The core stopper is also beheved to stabilize and locate the vortex flow in the vessel. Overflow from the vessel is through a wide cylindrical insert through the Hd, similar to a vortex finder in a hydrocyclone (16), and an optional provision can be made for collecting any floatables in a float trap. [Pg.322]

Liquid atomizers may also be classified according to their distinct design features and spray characteristics. More detailed information on various atomizers is available (1 3). [Pg.328]

The precious metal or metal oxide imparts high intrinsic activity, the carrier provides a stable, high surface area for catalyst dispersion, and the mechanical support gives a high geometric surface area for physical support and engineering design features (20). Only the correct combination of these... [Pg.502]

Actuators are classified according to their powder source. The nature of these sources leads naturally to design features that make their performance characteristics distinct. [Pg.780]

Design Features There are three classes of thickeners, each differentiated by its drive mechanism (1) bridge-supported, (2) center-column supported, and (3) traction drives. The diameter of the tank will range from 2 to 150 m (6.5 to 492 ft), and the support structure often is related to the size required. These classes are described in detail in the subsection Components and Accessories for Sedimentation Units. ... [Pg.1683]

Membrane System Design Features For the rate process of permeation to occur, there must be a driving force. For gas separations, that force is partial pressure (or fugacity). Since the ratio of the component fluxes determines the separation, the partial pressure of each component at each point is important. There are three ways of driving the process Either high partial pressure on the feed side (achieved by high total pressure), or low partial pressure on the permeate side, which may be achieved either by vacuum or by introduc-... [Pg.2050]
