At the European level, the national organizations from both the EU (European Union, formerly the EEC) and the EETA (European Free Trade Association) are grouped in the CEN (European Committee for Standardization) and its counterpart for the electrical industries CENELEC. The standards published by these two organizations have authority in all EU countries as well as the EFTA countries who have voted their approval, which means that these standards have replaced their corresponding national standards. [Pg.295]

The 5th Framework Programme must be more flexible, both in its research activities and in the decision-making process. The Commission proposes that a simplified decision-making procedure should apply to research policy, including the use of qualified majority voting rather than unanimity in the Council of Ministers. [Pg.931]

Vote 2. With diethyl ether continuous extraction has to be performed. [Pg.51]

Vote 1. The long neck serves only to prevent the reaction mixture from splashing... [Pg.146]

Vote 3. If more HMPT is used the yield of the cumulene will be lower the compound can remain longer in the hot reaction mixture, where it can polymerize. Mote 4. It is essential to follow the instructions given. The reaction sometimes starts very soon if in such a case the desired pressure (10-20 mmHg) has not yet been achieved, part of the cumulene may polymerize in the hot reaction mixture. [Pg.146]

Vote 2. A large excess of R MgCl is required, as the subsequent metallation of the enyne is rapid. In the case of C2H5 the Grignard reagent was prepared from ethyl bromide. [Pg.187]

Vote 1. The distillation should therefore be conducted in a fume hood. [Pg.229]

ASTM committees must be balanced in that the number of voting producers must not be greater than the number of voting nonproducers. Eor petroleum products, nonproducers are regulators, consumers, and equipment manufacturers. Committee chairs must be nonproducers. Although standards must be approved by a majority, aH negative votes must be carefully considered and a response made. In practice, because aH issues are fully discussed and the discussions are based on hard data, very few negative votes are cast when standards are submitted for final approval. [Pg.178]

Eany Common stockholders take the ultimate risk in a business ecause they have no right to a return on their investment. However, they have the right to elect the direciors of the company, who in turn are responsible for the management of the business. Stockholders are likely to vote the board of direciors out if adequate dividends are not paid. Usually the hability of stockholders is limited to the nominal, or par, value of their stock, and hence they can lose only what they have already paid for the stock. If the hability is not hmited by law, the personal assets of the stockholders are at risk in the event of company bankruptcy, in proportion to the amount of stock held. [Pg.841]

Preferred stock is often used as an alternative to debt when companies do not wish to issue additional common stock or to incur the fixed interest charges required to finance debt. Preferred stockholders are not normally allowed to vote for the board of direciors. They have the right to receive fixed amounts of dividends before common stockholders are paid any dividends. However, a company does not have to pay dividends. The board of directors may decide to pay small or no dividends in a particular year. Holders of cumulative preferred stock... [Pg.841]

Three non-eontaeting probes for measuring and monitoring the axial displaeement shall be supplied with proximitors and intereonneeting wires. The signals shall eause shutdown of the expander train based on a 2-out-of-3 voting system. [Pg.314]

The expander shall be equipped with an eleetronie overspeed trip. The piekups shall sense the rotation of a 30-tooth wheel and be eonneeted to a 2-out-of-3 voting system. [Pg.315]

The location as well as the quantity of the instruments is important. Four are preferred, two can be used, but voting is not possible. If space for three can be found, then there is probably room for four. Figure 10-9 is a sketch taken from a field test where only two sets of instruments could be installed. [Pg.432]

A eombination of deteetors may be appropriate. They may aetivate an alarm only, or aetuate a eombined alarm/extinguishment system. With a bank of deteetors a voting system may be used to inerease reliability and reduee the frequeney of spurious alarms. Deteetion/alarm systems may also be interlinked with, e.g., fire-eheek doors held baek on eleetromagnetie eatehes sueh that the doors elose automatieally upon aetivation of the deteetion system. [Pg.193]

You must provide information on your parent company. For purposes of Form R. a parent company is defined as the highest level company, located in the United States, that directly owns at least 50 percent of the voting stock of your company. If yourfacility is owned by a foreign entity, enter not applicable, NA, in this space. Corporate names should be treated as parent company names for companies with multiple facility sites. For example, the Bestchem Corporation is not owned or controlled by any other corporation but has sites throughout the country whose names begin with Bestchem. In this case, Bestchem Corporation would be listed as the parent company. [Pg.35]

The RSS was used by pro- and anti-nuclear power advocates in the Proposition 15 (nuclear power ban) voting in California the Barsebek and Ringhals PSAs were prepared as part of the nuclear controversy in Sweden the German Risk Study, 1981, had similar applications as did the Sizewell-B studies in Great Britain,... [Pg.383]

ISO EN 7730 standardizes the PMV-PPD index as the method for evaluation of moderate thermal environments. To quantify the degree of comfort, the PMV (predicted mean vote) index gives a value on a 7-point thermal sensation scale -t-3 hot, +2 warm, +1 slightly warm, 0 neutral, -I slightly cool, -2 cool, -3 cold. An equation in the standard calculates the PMV index based on the six factors (clothing, activity, air and mean radiant temperatures, air speed, and humidity). [Pg.376]

The PMV index predicts the mean value of the thermal preferences of a large group of people exposed to the same environment. But individual votes are scattered around this mean value, and it is useful to predict the number of people likely to feel uncomfortably warm or cool. The PPD (predicted percentage of dissatisfied) index establishes a quantitative prediction of the number of thermally dissatisfied people. The PPD predicts the percentage of a large group of people likely to feel too warm or cool, i.e., voting hot (-t-. , warm (4-2), cool (-2), or cold (-3) on the 7-point thermal sensation scale. [Pg.378]

Predicted mean vote index (PMV) An index used to predict the mean value of thermal sensation votes of a large group of persons, expressed on a 7-point scale. [Pg.1468]

Protocol. In 1997, prior to President Clinton s acceptance of the Kyoto Protocol, U.S. Senate Resolution 98, the Byrd-Hcgcl resolution, which was passed by a vote of ninety-five to zero, imposes specific requirements that must be met before the Kyoto Protocol can be ratified. The resolution calls for a specific timeline and commitments by developing countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and evidence that adoption of the Kyoto Protocol would not result in serious harm to the U.S. economy. In addition, the Fifth Conference of the Parties (1999) failed to resolve numerous outstanding issues held over from the previous conference, and put off critical decision making until the Sixth Conference of the Parties in The Ffague, Netherlands, in November 2000. [Pg.250]
