Popular vote

Spiro Anagnostopoulos was the sitting vice president seemed to settle once and for all the question of the ethnics fitness for self-government. Their whiteness had been ratified by popular vote. 

The PD had seven representatives in the Dutch-created West Kalimantan Council of 1947-9, and won 31 per cent of the popular vote in West Kalimantan at the 1955 national election. Here, in this volume, we have collected contributions from the invited speakers, from poster presentations that received the best poster awards (Yanao, Honjo, and Okushima), and from poster presentations chosen to cover topics that were not treated by the invited speakers. The best poster awards were decided based on a jury vote by the invited speakers and a popular vote by all the participants. Note, however, that there were many other posters that also deserved inclusion here.

QUINTUS You have dealt with that subject several times already. But before you come to legislation enacted by popular vote, please explain the meaning of that heavenly law, so that we may not be sucked in by the tide of habit and drawn to the customs of everyday language.

In terms of process. Schedule 1, to which reference is made in the above provision, requires the United Kingdom Secretary of State to order the holding of a poll on joining the Republic of Ireland if at any time it appears likely to him that a majority of those voting would express a wish that Northern Ireland should cease to be part of the United Kingdom and form part of a united Ireland .Under this clause, the Secretary is required to hold a poll ( shall ), but this mandatory requirement comes into force only subject to the exercise of his or her appreciation of popular will - the very fact that can really be assessed only through the poll. No further poll is to be held for seven years after a referendum which has rejected a change in territorial status.
