The relative susceptibHity of several commercial aHoys is presented in Table 8. The index used is a relative rating based on integrating performance in various environments. These environments include the harsh condition of exposure to moist ammonia, Hght-to-moderate industrial atmospheres, marine atmosphere, and an accelerated test in Mattsson s solution. The latter testing is described in ASTM G30 and G37 (35,36) and is intended to simulate industrial atmospheres. The index is linear. A rating of 1000 relates to the most susceptible and zero designates immunity to stress corrosion. 

Another distinction in impellers is the way the liquid traverses and leaves the impeller blades. This is called the Specific Speed, Ns. It is another index used by pump designers to describe the geometry of the impeller and to classify impellers according to their clesign type and application. By definition, the Specific Speed, Ns is the revolutions per minute (rpm) at which a geometrically similar impeller would run if it were of such a size as to discharge one gallon per minute at one foot of head. 

Air quality indexes have been devised for categorizing the air quality measurements of several individual pollutants by one composite number. The index used by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is called the Pollutant Standards Index (PSl) (Table 4-6). 

Dow Fire and Explosion Index (F EI) A method (developed by Dow Chemieal Company) for ranking the relative fire and explosion risk assoeiated with a proeess. Analysts ealeulate various hazard and explosion indexes using material eharaeteristies and proeess data. 

Predicted mean vote index (PMV) An index used to predict the mean value of thermal sensation votes of a large group of persons, expressed on a 7-point scale. 

The systematic nomenclature used originally the term imidazo-1,2,3-triazine. The Chemical Abstracts indexes use the more accurate name imidazo[4,5-d]-Z -triazine (141). The numbering of the substituents is different in the two systems of nomenclature as may be seen in the formulas. 

According to the systematic nomenclature these substances were first named l-f-triazolo[d] pyrimidines in compliance with the general principles of the Ring Index/ More recent papers and Chemical Abstracts indexes use the term i -triazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidine (147) in accord with the lUPAC nomenclature. The numbering of substituents when using the last-mentioned name is different from that of the 8-aza analogs. For the formulas of oxygen and sulfur derivatives names derived from the lactim or thiolactim form are almost exclusively in use (in common with the purine derivatives). These derivatives are thus described as hydroxy and mercapto derivatives, respectively. The name 1,2,3,4,6-pentaazaindene is used only rarely for this system. 

Price Indexing Some gas prices, by contractual agreement, reflect changes in the spot, futures or other markets, such as heating oil. Price indexing is often used to reflect that the parties to the contract believe the price to be paid is related in some way to the particular index used. 

The TOTAL correlations calculate aromatic carbon content, hydrogen content, molecular weight, and refractive index using routine laboratory tests. The TOTAL correlations are listed below and are also in Appendix 3. Example 2-2 illustrates the use of TOTAL correlations. 

Lush has proposed cavitation criteria for these components using the empirical data of Tullis and BalP and Boccadoro and Angell . The cavitation index used is based on conditions at the throat of a valve and, correspondingly, the vena contracta of an orifice plate. 

It is not being suggested that these figures represent the total number of papers published on the snbject since the database nsed does not contain publications from all publishers and it is highly nnlikely that all relevant papers will have been indexed using this simple term. It does, however, reflect the significant increase in the number of papers on LC-MS pnblished recently which, in turn, reflects the development of LC-MS into a rontine and mamre analytical techniqne. 

Each quantized property can be identified, or indexed, using a quantum number. These are integers that specify the values of the electron s quantized properties. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) The volume of plasma that is filtered by the glomerulus per unit time, usually expressed as mL/minute or mL/minute/1.73 m2, which adjusts the value for body surface area. GFR is the primary index used to describe overall renal function. 

In addition to the above measurements, indexes using soil concentrations in combination with permeability measurements have been suggested by some researchers.4142 As elaborated on later in this section, these methods have been successful in establishing relationships between some of the site measurements and indexes, and indoor radon concentrations for specific areas and regions.

The year chosen as a base is one that is close to normal. War years and periods of inflation or depression are avoided. The Marshall and Swift Index uses 1926 as a base. The Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index uses an average of 1957-1959, and the Construction Cost Index uses 1913. 

Indexes Useful to Chemical Engineers and Their Sources... 

An aridity definition that takes account of the relation precipitation/potential evaporation is the Aridity Index used in the Atlas of Desertification (UNEP, 1993). Four different degrees of aridity can be recognized. These are best defined using the Aridity Index (AI), calculated as the ratio P/PET, where P stands for precipitation and PET for (potential) evapotranspiration. AI values of <1.0 indicate an average annual moisture deficit. According to this criterion, four subzones can be discussed ... 

The analysis of the contribution made by increased pharmaceutical spending to the growth in the per capita intensity of health resources suffers from major measurement problems that deprive available indicators of any value. Traditional pharmaceutical price indexes (such as the Laspeyres index, used to calculate the pharmaceutical component of the consumer price index) provide little relevant information in a market in which the introduction of therapeutic innovations is of prime importance the indexes show an apparent freeze, and sometimes even a steep drop (as in the Spanish case). However, the steady rise in the average price per prescription paints a very different picture.

The orthogonal projection of the epitaxial poly(DMDA) could not be indexed using the unit cell data for the bulk polymerized crystal (8). However, poly(DMDA) cannot usually be polymerized to completion or to high crystallinity in the bulk due to cross-linking. A newer prognostic index uses similar risk factors except that poor performance status is replaced with low hemoglobin (less than 12 g/dL). Current research is focused on the prognostic importance of phenotypic and molecular characteristics of NHL.

Since the monoisotopic signal is the protonated ion, the elemental composition for the API in the counterfeit tablets was therefore determined as C8lTj502N7S3. A computerized search of The Merck Index using the elemental formula suggested the unknown compound to be Famotidine, an active pharmaceutical ingredient widely used in over-the-counter antiulcerative medicine.
