This usefulness of the correlation is twq-fpld first it provides information on the cetane indices that are not aViit le in the literature as in the cases of polynuclear aromatics and sulfur-containing aromatics, and second it helps provide an evaluation of the cetane index based on a few milligrams of sample, instead of the liter or so required for the motor method. 

A more practically useful work index based on empirical results from ball milling trials has been developed (7—9) and is expressed by equation 1 ... 

W1 is Bond work index based on 100 percent passing a 200-mesh sieve, is the sohds feed rate in kg/min, and S is weight percent solids in the feed. This represents experimental data for limestone, feldspar, sulfide ore, and quartz. The influence of Wl is believed to be due to its effect on amount of fines present in the mill. Parameters that did not affect are specific gravity of feed material, and feed size over the narrow range studied.

ISO EN 7730 standardizes the PMV-PPD index as the method for evaluation of moderate thermal environments. To quantify the degree of comfort, the PMV (predicted mean vote) index gives a value on a 7-point thermal sensation scale -t-3 hot, +2 warm, +1 slightly warm, 0 neutral, -I slightly cool, -2 cool, -3 cold. An equation in the standard calculates the PMV index based on the six factors (clothing, activity, air and mean radiant temperatures, air speed, and humidity). 

The order of aromaticity of these compounds is benzene > thiophene > pyrrole > fiiran, as calculated by an aromaticity index based on bond-distance measurements. This index has been calculated for five- and six-membered monocyclic and bicyclic heterocycles Bird, C.W. Tetrahedron, 1985, 41, 1409 1986, 42, 89 1987, 43, 4725. 

The base year used for the index is revised about every 5 years. The base for the current index is January 2000 = 100 see Anon. (2002). Care must be taken when updating costs over a period that includes a change in the index base see Example 6.1. 

A composite index for the United States process plant industry is published monthly in the journal Chemical Engineering, the CPE plant cost index. This journal also publishes the Marshall and Swift index (M and S equipment cost index), base year 1926. The CPE index over a ten-year period is shown in Figure 6.1 b.

In a study comparing organic and conventional apples (variety Golden Delicious) from a range of commercial orchards it was found that reproducible differences between apples from organic and conventional systems can be detected (Fig. 16.6). Additionally, the vitality index produced based on the picture forming method was found to be correlated with the technical standard index based on chemical quality tests and the sensory test results (Fig. 16.7, left) (Weibel et al., 2004a).

Figure 1 shows the powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the as-prepared Li(Nio.4Coo.2Mno.4)02 material. All of the peaks could be indexed based on the a-NaFeC>2 structure (R 3 m). The lattice parameters in hexagonal setting obtained by the least square method were a=2.868A and c=14.25A. Since no second-phase diffraction peaks were observed from the surface-coated materials and it is unlikely that the A1 ions were incorporated into the lattice at the low heat-treatment temperature (300°C), it is considered that the particle surface was coated with amorphous aluminum oxide. 

Groundwater vulnerability maps, based on a regional assessment using an index-based system, can be used as a screening tool to rapidly assess the relative scale of impacts arising from pressures. They may be useful for assessing whether ground-water bodies are at risk from pollution sources at initial characterisation.

In this thesis an index based method was selected since inherent safety in formed of many subfactors which are interrelated. Therefore it is more straightforward to represent these factors as subindices which are weighted by score means as discussed later in Chapter 9. 

A large number of pharmaceutical substances such as volatile oils, namely peppermint oil, lemon oil, aniseed oil have a definite range of refractive index. Based on this physical characteristic it is possible to ascertain the purity of this volatile oil precisely and accurately. 

The Exxon Donor Solvent (EDS) Process, developed by the Exxon Research and Engineering Co., differed from the typical process in that, before being recycled, the solvent was hydrogenated in a fixed-bed reactor using a hydrotreating catalyst, such as cobalt or nickel molybdate. Exxon found that use of this hydrogen donor solvent with carefully controlled properties improved process performance. Exxon developed a solvent index, based on solvent properties, which correlated with solvent effectiveness.

In 1952, Knapp and Goodrich published one of the earliest studies of the baccalaureate origins of U.S. Ph.D. scientists. Changes in Division Rate. The division index for 0400 hr samples taken through the bloom was used to indicate whether a reduction in division rate contributed to the decline. (We cannot at present extrapolate from a division index based on samples from one hour to divisions/day.) The index rose during the build-up of the bloom to a value of 22 or more and fell to 10 during a 9-day period in which cell densities peaked and dropped rapidly (Figure 5).
