Viewpoint project

A URS is easy to criticize, but to write it is much more difficult than is often believed. The first draft of the document is inevitably unstructured as authors tend to include information in the order it comes to mind. The creation of a standard format helps, but most authors still customize the layout to reflect their own particular viewpoints. Project managers must accept and plan for rearranging the URS so that a more readable and useful document evolves. Revisions to the URS must be subject to version control so that the project team is kept abreast of updates. [Pg.152]

From an overall economic viewpoint, any investment proposal may be considered as an activity which initially absorbs funds and later generates money. The funds may be raised from loan capital or from shareholders capital, and the net (after tax and costs) money generated may be used to repay interest on loans and loan capital, with the balance being due to the shareholders. The shareholders profit can either be paid out as dividends, or reinvested in the company to fund the existing venture or new ventures. Capital Investment. Erom the viewpoint of a project, all of the capital that must be raised is external capital. Equity capital is the ownership capital, eg, common and preferred stocks or retained cash, whereas debt capital consists of bonds, mortgages, debentures, and loans. Nearly all investment involves a mixture of both types so as to maximize the return on investment (21). The debt ratio (debt/total capital) for the chemical industry is typically over 30%. Because financial details are not well known during the preliminary phases of project analysis, the investment is viewed simply as the total capital that must be expended to design and build the project. [Pg.446]

You should consider obtaining internal and external quality assurance reviews of the study (to ferret out errors in modeling, data, etc.). Independent peer reviews of the QRA results can be helpful by presenting alternate viewpoints, and you should include outside experts (either consultants or personnel from another plant) on the QRA review panel. You should also set up a mechanism wherein disputes between QRA team members (e.g., technical arguments about safety issues) can be voiced and reconciled. All of these factors play an essential role in producing a defendable, high-quality QRA. Durihg recent years a considerable amount of re-.search has been undertaken to understand what in the makeup of a polymer affects the processability. In the late 1980s, the Rubber Manufacturers Association in the United States undertook a research project with the Department of Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron to evaluate the laboratory equipment available using specially made butadiene-acrylonitrile polymers with different acrylonitrile levels, molecular weights, and molecular weight distributions. The results from the study confirmed that, from the processing variables viewpoint, the major factors are frequency (shear rate), temperature (temperature), and deformation (strain). [Pg.452]

From a construction viewpoint these summaries are a necessary check list to aid in keeping the construction program organized. The choice of material from the viewpoint of mechanical properties must be based on design conditions. However, from a corrosion standpoint it must be realised that the design conditions are limiting values and that for most of its life the equipment will operate under process conditions . One way to solve the problem of unphysically short atomic distances is to project onto the Rpm subspace only those grid points included in a selected strip (gray area), with width of a (cos a + sin a) in the A per subspace. The slope of RPai shown in Fig. 1 is 0.618..., an irrational number related to the golden mean [( /5 + l)/2 = 1.618...]. As a result, the projected ID structure contains two segments (denoted as L and S), and their distribution follows a ID quasiperiodic Fibonacci sequence [2] (c.f. Table 1). Hall and Cassel describe a complete, commercially available experimental system for detailed studies of the thermal history and other characteristics of fibers, a common form of evidence material. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms has developed a large library of inks of known manufacture dates and reports excellent cooperation from industry in its tagging project (Brunelle and Cantu). Again, the application of a well established technique (in this case thin-layer chromatography, which is sensitive enough to allow concurrent handwriting and other supportive analysis) proves its value not only operationally but also from the viewpoint of legal admissibility (Brunelle and Cantu). [Pg.218]
