Valves actuated

These can be controlled by variations in pump design in nonaerosols and by variations in valves, actuators, and concentrate/propeUant ratio in aerosols. [Pg.455]

If the dmg is not soluble in the propellant, it is dissolved or dispersed in a Hquid vehicle. The propellant then constitutes the third phase of the system, and the container must be shaken before valve actuation. Emulsified aerosol products like lotions and creams are examples of such systems. [Pg.235]

Once the desired control action has been transformed to an analogue signal, it is transmitted to the final control element over the transmission lines. However, the final control element s actuator may require a different type of signal and thus another transducer may be necessary. Many control valve actuators utilise a pressure signal so a current-to-pressure (I/P) transducer is used to provide a pressure signal to the actuator. [Pg.65]

Valve, trap, and baffle can be combined in such a manner that elastomers can be used in the valve and contamination is controlled from the valve-actuator mechanisms and from the gasket of the valve-plate seal (Fig. 15) (42). [Pg.378]

Software packages are commercially available for simulation of hydrauhc transients. These may be used to analyze piping systems to reveal unsatisfactoi y behavior, and they aUow the assessment of design changes such as increases in pipe-wall thickness, changes in valve actuation, and addition of check valves, surge tanks, and pulsation dampeners. [Pg.670]

Positioner Application Positioners are widelv used on pneumatic valve actuators, VIore often than not, thev provide improved process-loop control because thev reduce valve-related nonlinearitv, Dvnarnicallv, positioners maintain their abilitv to improve control-valve performance for sinusoidal input frequencies up to about one half of the positioner bandwidth. At input frequencies greater than this, the attenuation in the positioner amplifier netvv ork gets large, and valve nonlinearitv begins to affect final control-element performance more significantlv. Because of this, the most successful use of the positioner occurs when the positioner-response bandwidth is greater than twice that of the most dominant time lag in the process loop. [Pg.785]

Limit Switches and Stem-Position Transmitters Travel-limit switches, position switches, and valve-position transmitters are devices that, when mounted on the valve, actuator, damper, louver, or other throtthng element, detect the component s relative position. The switches are used to operate alarms, signal hghts, relays, solenoid valves, or discrete inputs into the control system. The valve-position transmitter generates a 4-20-mA output that is proportional to the position of the valve. [Pg.786]

Install flame arresters on atmospheric vents to prevent fire on the outside of the tank from propagating back into the vapor space inside the tank. Provide fire resistant insulation for critical vessels, piping, outlet valves on tanks, valve actuators, instruments lines, and key electrical facilities. Provide remote controlled, automatic, and fire-actuated valves to stop loss of tank contents during an emergency provide fire protection to these valves. Valves should be close-coupled to the tank, and must be resistant to corrosion or other deleterious effects of spilled fluids. Vessels should be provided with overpressure relief protection. [Pg.46]

Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) A relief valve is a spring-loaded valve actuated by static pressure upstream of the valve. The valve opens normally in proportion to the pressure increase over opening pressure. A relief valve is normally used with incompressible fluids. [Pg.164]

One centrifuge was powered by a hydraulic oil installation 2-3 m away. A leak of oil from a cooler was ignited, and the fire was spread by oil and product spillages and by plastic-covered cables. It destroyed the plastic seal between the centrifuge and its exit chute. There was an explosion in the chute and a flash fire in the drier to which it led. The centrifuge exit valve was closed, but the aluminum valve actuator was destroyed. Fortunately, the exit valve did not leak, or several tons of solvent would have been added to the fire. Aluminum is not a suitable material of construction for equipment that may be exposed to fire. [Pg.206]

Water Water is a serious contaminant of hydraulic systems. Hydraulic fluids are adversely affected by dissolved, emulsified, or free water. Water contamination may result in the formation of ice, which impedes the operation of valves, actuators, and other moving parts. Water can also cause the formation of oxidation products and corrosion of metallic surfaces. [Pg.603]

Radial feed nozzles also minimize the possibility of a reversal. New valve actuators can operate more quickly and reliably, also increasing the safety factor. [Pg.294]

An alternative form of split injection is the timed split technique, Figure 6.11 [130,131,133]. In this case the column is connected directly to the valve and the valve actuator is controlled electronically to turn the valve to the inject position and back very rapidly with only a portion of the sample in the loop displaced to the column. Timed split allows variable volumes to be injected by changing the valve actuator tine and provides more reproducible splitting than the dynamic split technique. However, it suffers from many of the same problems as dynamic split, namely, poor accuracy, split ratios that depend on pressure, and high detection limits. [Pg.834]

Ideally, the axial velocity through the cross-flow unit should be greater than about 4-6 m/s to minimize the boundary layer of particles near the membrane surface. The wax permeate flow from the filter is limited by a control valve actuated by a reactor-level controller. Hence, a constant inventory of slurry is maintained within the SBCR system as long as the superficial gas velocity remains constant. Changes in the gas holdup due to a variable gas velocity are calculated... [Pg.279]

Instrument air failure The consequences of the loss of instrument air should be evaluated in conjunction with the failure mode of the control valve actuators. It should not be assumed that the correct air failure response will occur on these control valves, as some valves may stick in their last operating position. [Pg.76]

Valve Actuating Mechanisms 15-20 minutes H rating (HI 5 or H20, plus blast if applicable)... [Pg.121]

Actuating mechanisms include control panels, air receivers, valve actuators, instrumentation controls or tubing, etc. [Pg.121]

There were a few incidents of pressure relief valve actuation, especially during troubleshooting of the instability problem. The committee believes that resolution of the instability problem will alleviate this problem. [Pg.112]

The inventory of contained liquid and gas can be calculated between isolation points to determine the amount of material that can be released for pro-cess-related scenarios. The time frame to close manual valves—depending on accessibility, operating conditions, and availability of personnel—is typically 10-30 minutes. For remotely operated valves actuated from the control room, 60-90 seconds is used for isolation. The release rate will decrease based on the pressure decay of the system once the system has been isolated. [Pg.57]
