Valve performance

2) Handwheel It used to limit valve plug movement or manually full Close or open a control valve. [Pg.132]

3) Limit switch It is a mechanical devise to limit the valve plug from fuH Open or full close position. [Pg.132]

The putpose of using a control valve is to control a process parameter to an acceptable range, when the process is experiencing some disturbances, such as feed rate fluctuation, ambient temperature change, etc. A good control valve should be able to handle disturbance of 1% or less. There are two types of control valve performance need to be discussed. One is inherent control valve petformance and the other is installed control valve performance. [Pg.132]

Installed control valve perfonnance is refeired to control valve performance including associated process system and control loop elements. Flow through control valve depends on the control valve selected (such as valve type valve trim, actuator, etc.), associated process system (such a.s equipment/instrument and piping in the system), and selected control loop elements (such as controller, positioner, etc.). It is the real performance measurement of a control loop. A go control loop should be able to control the process parameter within an acceptable range. [Pg.133]

Positioner Application Positioners are widelv used on pneumatic valve actuators, VIore often than not, thev provide improved process-loop control because thev reduce valve-related nonlinearitv, Dvnarnicallv, positioners maintain their abilitv to improve control-valve performance for sinusoidal input frequencies up to about one half of the positioner bandwidth. At input frequencies greater than this, the attenuation in the positioner amplifier netvv ork gets large, and valve nonlinearitv begins to affect final control-element performance more significantlv. Because of this, the most successful use of the positioner occurs when the positioner-response bandwidth is greater than twice that of the most dominant time lag in the process loop. [Pg.785]

System Curves In addition to the pump design, the operational performance of a pump depends upon factors such as the downstream load characteristics, pipe friction, and valve performance. Typically, head and flow follow the following relationship ... [Pg.903]

For the purpose of this chapter, instrumentation will be considered everything from the primary element monitoring the controlled variable through the control valve performing the throttling action. The process equipment interacts with the instrumentation to provide the process... [Pg.290]

An important application of a rupture disc device is at the inlet of a pressure relief valve. The sizing of the pressure relief valve or rupture disc device combination requires that the pressure relief valve first be sized to meet the required relieving capacity. The normal size of the rupture disc device installed at the inlet of the pressure relief valve must be equal to or greater than the nominal size of the inlet connection of the valve to permit sufficient flow capacity and valve performance. The failure modes of rupture discs are [40] ... [Pg.979]

This study is a good reference for the construction of fault/event trees of systems that are affected by valve performance. The valve failure modes are identified, the associated mechanisms are described in detail, and preventive measures are offered. [Pg.105]

For conventional valves, pressure drop or variations in back pressure should not exceed 10% of set pressure. Because most process safety valves are sized for critical pressure conditions, the piping must accommodate the capacity required for valve relief and not have the pressure at the end of vent or manifold exceed the critical pressure. Designing for pressure 30% to 40% of critical w ith balanced valves, yields smaller pipes yet allows proper functioning of the valve. The discharge line size must not be smaller than the valve discharge. Check the manufacturer for valve performance under particular conditions, especially with balanced valves w hich can handle up to 70% to 80% of set pressure as back pressure. [Pg.431]

A general appreciation of some of the effect of gas pulsation on the performance and impact on the compressor pulsation drums, their nozzles, the piping system, and the cylinder valve performance, as well as possible other effects in some unique systems or items of equipment, can be discovered by examining the cylinder performance using an indicator card. This examination (see Chapter 12) can reveal acceptable and unacceptable performance in terms of pressure variations within the cylinder as the piston passes through its cycle. Hicks presents a helpful analysis see Figures 13-3 and 13M. [Pg.582]

The only other variables that affect performance are the inlet-discharge valves, which control flow into and out of each cylinder. Although reciprocating compressors can use a variety of valve designs, it is crucial that the valves perform reliably. If they are damaged and fail to operate at the proper time or do not seal properly, overall compressor performance will be substantially reduced. [Pg.564]

Directional control valves may be classified in several ways. Some of the different ways are by the type of control, the number of ports in the valve housing, and the specific function that the valve performs. The most common method is by the type of valving element used in the construction of the valve. The most common types of valving elements are the ball, cone, sleeve, poppet, rotary spool, and sliding spool. The basic operating principles of the poppet, rotary spool, and sliding spool types are discussed in this text. [Pg.614]

A full-term girl with pulmonary atresia and an intact intraventricular septum had balloon dilatation of the pulmonary valve performed on the third day of life. [Pg.113]

It is imperative to also consult the vendor to determine an adequate number of valves for spray weight testing. If the metered chamber is plastic, valves totaling at least twice the number of the vendor s mold impressions should be tested to guarantee complete evaluation of the lot of valves. The spray weight methodology conducted on valves can drastically influence the results. Because the valve is a mechanical device, the way in which it is actuated is technique-oriented. Manual actuation versus automatic actuation can cause variation in the results. Method ruggedness is essential in evaluation of the valve performance. [Pg.374]

A balanced piston SRV can handle all applications mentioned for balanced bellows SRVs, but should the vulnerable bellows fail, the piston on top of the guide maintains the proper performance of the valve, with no change in opening pressure and no reduction in valve capacity. The balanced piston ensures a stable valve performance. [Pg.119]

This is critical to the valve performance as it controls propellant leakage and metering reproducibility. Chemical constituent extraction from the seals by the propellants should be tightly controlled. [Pg.266]
