The choice of contract type will depend upon the type of work, and the level of control which the oil company wishes to maintain. There is a current trend for the oil company to consider the contractor as a partner in the project (partnering arrangements), and to work closely with the contractor at all stages of the project development. The objective of this closer involvement of the contractor is to provide a common incentive for the contractor and the oil company to improve quality, efficiency, safety, and most importantly to reduce cost. This type of contract usually contains a significant element of sharing risk and reward of the project. 

Within a homologous series such as the -butyl-, -hexyl-, and -octyl-substituted methacrylates there is a trend for those polymers with the bulkier substituents to show smaller values of f. Note that there is also a correlation between substituent size and Tg within this series. 

Each year, EPA pubHshes a summary of air pollution emissions and air quaUty trends for the criteria pollutants (4). Table 1 contains the summary for 1989. U.S. emissions estimates for these pollutants are available back to 1940 (5). 

The trend for increasing viscosity with increased dose is shown in Eigure 18 for several petroleum oils (72). The physical characteristics of /i /f-amyl alcohol diverge from the standard trends for the other alcohols it has a lower boiling point, higher melting point, higher vapor pressure, and low surface tension. Most notably, organic molecules are highly soluble in /i /f-amyl alcohol. 

In 1994, there were approximately six to seven dozen companies producing shicon in about 30 different Western countries, together employing several hundred furnaces. Nameplate Western world ferrosihcon capacity was estimated at 1,830,000 t of contained shicon. The effective capacity in 1994 was estimated at 1,450,000 t of contained shicon. There has been a definite shift in ferrosihcon capacity and trends for new plants and expansions are outside of the traditional supply areas. Since 1992, new capacity has been added in South Africa, Venezuela, Iran, and Bhutan. Additional plants near completion in Iran and Saudi Arabia are scheduled to start in 1996. The Western world ferrosihcon supply is expected to increase by about 150,000 t/yr of contained shicon by the year 2000 (27). 

Production trends for bearings and bearing materials closely parallel general industrial activity. 

Mathematical Consistency Requirements. Theoretical equations provide a method by which a data set s internal consistency can be tested or missing data can be derived from known values of related properties. The abiUty of data to fit a proven model may also provide insight into whether that data behaves correctiy and follows expected trends. For example, poor fit of vapor pressure versus temperature data to a generally accepted correlating equation could indicate systematic data error or bias. A simple sermlogarithmic form, (eg, the Antoine equation, eq. 8), has been shown to apply to most organic Hquids, so substantial deviation from this model might indicate a problem. Many other simple thermodynamics relations can provide useful data tests (1—5,18,21). 

Annelation increases the complexity of the spectra just as it does in the carbocyclic series, and the spectra are not unlike those of the aromatic carbocycle obtained by formally replacing the heteroatom by two aromatic carbon atoms (—CH=CH—). Although quantitatively less marked, the same trend for the longest wavelength band to undergo a bathochromic shift in the heteroatom sequence O < NH < S < Se < Te is discernible in the spectra of the benzo[Z>] heterocycles (Table 17). Microparticulate Systems - Although dual combination treatment systems comprising microparticles and flocculants have been used in the paper industry since the 1980s, it is only recently that there has been a general trend for paper mills to switch from conventional single component systems to dual systems. 

Exhibit 7-1 listed a number of possible performance measures. Some of these are commonly used and need no explanation others may be unfamiliar and are described in more detail below. The direction of goodness is not the same for all measurements, so use care in interpreting trends. For some measures, repetitive findings are a particular concern. 

Imidazole is characterized mainly by the T) (N) coordination mode, where N is the nitrogen atom of the pyridine type. The rare coordination modes are T) - (jt-) realized in the ruthenium complexes, I-ti (C,N)- in organoruthenium and organoosmium chemistry. Imidazolium salts and stable 1,3-disubsti-tuted imidazol-2-ylidenes give a vast group of mono-, bis-, and tris-carbene complexes characterized by stability and prominent catalytic activity. Benzimidazole follows the same trends. Biimidazoles and bibenzimidazoles are ligands as the neutral molecules, mono- and dianions. A variety of the coordination situations is, therefore, broad, but there are practically no deviations from the expected classical trends for the mono-, di-, and polynuclear A -complexes. 

The transition-state structure of the hetero-Diels-Alder reaction is generally found to be unsymmetrical. Houk et al. have for the reaction of formaldehyde with 1,3-butadiene calculated the C-C and C-0 bond lengths to be 2.133 A and 1.998 A, respectively, in the transition state using ab-initio calculations shown in Fig. 8.12 [25 bj. The reaction of formaldimine follows the same trend for the transition-state structure.
