The test procedure

Most models run through a self-test when the pump is switched on. Note all test results or information which is shown on the display. In the case of an error message, read the pages in question of the manual or call the manufacturer s service number. In addition, the appearance of the instrument is an indicator of its condition. Salt crusts, leaks and an untidy appearance are an indicator of possible problems. It is highly recommended to repair such a pump prior to the test. 

First check the pressure display. It should show Obar. If the deviation is higher than 1 bar it is necessary to adjust this value by appropriate means. 

For the tests of flow deviation, flow reproducibility, and pressure deviation the above-mentioned column is installed. Connect a calibrated flow and pressure meter and set the flow rate of mobile phase 1 to 1.5mlmin . Let the whole HPLC system stabilize for 10-15 min. Then read and note the indicated data of the meter and the pump in intervals of 1 min for 6 min. Special attention needs to be given to possible flow and pressure deviations. If the pump has more than one channel only channel A is tested. Usually there are no differences between channels. In the case of such a difference it would be found with the gradient test. 

It is recommended to follow the validation instructions of the respective manufacturer.

International Rubber Hardness. The International mbber hardness test (ASTM D1415) (2) for elastomers is similar to the Rockwell test ia that the measured property is the difference ia penetration of a standard steel ball between minor and major loads. The viscoelastic properties of elastomers require that a load appHcation time, usually 30 seconds, be a part of the test procedure. The hardness number is read directly on a scale of 0 to 100 upon return to the minor load. International mbber hardness numbers are often considered equivalent to Durometer hardness numbers but differences ia iadenters, loads, and test time preclude such a relationship. 

When constmction is complete, the pipeline must be tested for leaks and strength before being put into service industry code specifies the test procedures. Water is the test fluid of choice for natural gas pipelines, and hydrostatic testing is often carried out beyond the yield strength in order to reHeve secondary stresses added during constmction or to ensure that all defects are found. The Federal Trade Commission has aimounced a rule, effective November 30, 1995, that sets test procedures and labeling standards for recycled oil used as engine lubricating oil (35). The test procedures used are those contained in the Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System of the American Petroleum Institute (API) (36). The rule states in effect that if recycled oils meet the requirements of the API Certification System, such oils ate substantially equivalent to new oil for use as engine oil. This federal rule preempts certain state recycled oil rules (35). 

In general, textile materials are moisture- and temperature-sensitive. As a result, all tests should be performed at ambient conditions of 21°C and 65% relative humidity unless otherwise stated. Most of the testing procedures discussed for textile materials are available in the Hterature (1,2). 

In the development phase of catalyst research, testing of the catalyst s chemical and physical properties and evaluation of the catalyst s performance ate two essential tasks. In the manufacturing process, many of the same analyses and evaluations are used for quaHty assurance. A number of the testing procedures outlined eadier for catalyst supports can also be appHed to catalysts (32). 

Whatever the application, a user should be aware that not aU test procedures are the same, are of the same severity, or use the same rating designations. Therefore, it is important to review the test procedure and determine whether the procedure used is applicable to the intended instaUation and potential hazard the flame arrester is meant to prevent.

In the following we describe a brief procedure to conduct various tests and measurements and compulation of the lest results according lo lEC 60034-1. (For more details of the testing procedure the reader should refer to the standard.)...

The test procedure will depend upon the actual application. 

Wet test While an indoor type switchgear assembly requires only a dry power frequency voltage withstand test, the outdoor type switchgear assembly also needs a wet test under wet conditions to check the external insulation. For the test procedure refer to lEC 60060-1. 

Artificial pollution test The purpose of this test is to provide information on the behaviour of the external insulation while operating in polluted conditions. The test may be performed only if thought necessary, depending upon the degree of contamination at the place of installation. For the test procedure refer to IFC 60060-1. 

Field tests Power frequency withstand test on the primary windings (for un-grounded VTs). The value of the test voltage and the test procedure, is almost the same as that for a switchgear assembly (Section 14.5). 

Additional tests on a capacitor VT The tests discussed above refer generally to the electromagnetic unit only. To test the whole VT, the following tests are recommended. For the test procedure and results refer to lEC 60186. 

The test procedure and test performance should be the same as noted in (3) above except the test voltages, which will be as specified in Table 26.3. 

This is an alternative to the ageing test and is applicable for shunt capacitors of 1000 V and above. It is an in-house process test and is carried out on the capacitor elements before they are assembled into a capacitor unit to ascertain their dielectric stability against repeated overvoltages. For the test procedure refer to lEC 60871-2. 

The information obtained during the background search and from the source inspection will enable selection of the test procedure to be used. The choice will be based on the answers to several questions (1) What are the legal requirements For specific sources there may be only one acceptable method. (2) What range of accuracy is desirable Should the sample be collected by a procedure that is 5% accurate, or should a statistical technique be used on data from eight tests at 10% accuracy Costs of different test methods will certainly be a consideration here. (3) Which sampling and analytical methods are available that will give the required accuracy for the estimated concentration An Orsat gas analyzer with a sensitivity limit of 0.02% would not be chosen to sample carbon monoxide... 

Gas flows are often determined by measuring the associated pressures. Figure 32-4 illustrates several different pressure measurements commonly made on systems carrying gases. Static pressure measurements are made to adjust the absolute pressure to standard conditions specified in the test procedure. 

After the heat run, the compressor continues to run on air and the highest pressure practical is imposed, while the speed is set to the normal operating speed. The capacity and power should be noted as well as bearing temperature and the other instrumentation used during the test. If oil buffered seals are used and the test run is expected to exceed 250°F, the test procedure may have to be modified to avoid the possibility of an explosion hazard. 

The total solids in municipal wastewaters exist in a distribution of sizes from individual ions up to visible particles. Specific analytical procedures have been established to distinguish the suspended fraction of the total solids and to further distinguish the settleable fraction within the suspended solids. A typical concentration of SS (suspended solids) for raw domestic wastewaters is 200 mg/1, but this can vary substantially from system to system. The lower limiting size for the SS fraction (about 1.5 microns) is arbitrarily defined by the test procedures and it should be noted that variations in test procedures themselves can also lead to...

Test demands Periodic equipment testing is an important source of demands, especially for safety system components that are often in a standby state. A review of the test procedures can be performed to obtain this information if it is not recorded in the maintenance records. 

Gaussian includes many different model chemistries. The theoretical model chemistries in Gaussian have been subjected to the testing procedure described previously and so may be recommended for general use with any system for which they are computationally feasible. 

Mechanical Properties. The mechanical properties used for design shall be the minimum values allowed by the applicable material specification or shall be the minimum values determined by the manufacturer in accordance with the test procedures specified in ASTM A370 Methods and Definitions for Mechanical Testing of Steel Products, or by mill certification for mill products. The yield point shall be used in lieu of yield strength for those materials exhibiting a yield point. Yield strength shall be determined at 0.2% offset. 

Plastic Viscosity and Yield Point. Plastic viscosity and yield point measurements are obtained from a direct indicating viscometer. Due to the temperature effect on the flow properties of oil-base mud, the testing procedure is modified. The mud sample in the container is placed into a cup heater [23]. The heated viscometer cup provides flow property data under atmospheric pressure and bottomhole temperature. 

The filtered phase and suspended particulate phase of the 1 9 slurry represent the 100% concentration or 1,000,000 ppm. Serial dilutions of these two phases of drilling fluids are used in the test procedure to expose mysid shrimp (Mysidopsis bahia) for 96 hr and determine the LC. ...
