Error messages

As can be seen in Figure 5-17, some search fields (e.g., POW [= Power]) do not need any input in the search mask this means that all entries with any content of those Helds are retrieved. However, other fields always demand an input. In case the input is omitted (for example for the decadic logarithm of the partition coefficient), a corresponding error message results. Since the PCB are more soluble in the organic phase, the input of that Field is restricted to positive values. 

If you forget to include SCF=Tight in your job, it will probably have failed, giving error messages something like the following ... 

Now look at rows 21-24. Notice how ALKALINE PHOSPHATASE is truncated to ALKALINE PHOSP. This happens because the default behavior of the Import Wizard, PROC IMPORT, and the External File Interface (EFI) is that they scan only 20 rows deep into the file to determine variable attributes. Text field truncation is a common problem here. Another problem is that if a field appears to be numeric in the first 20 rows but later has character text beyond the scanning depth of PROC IMPORT, the procedure will terminate with an error message. There are two workarounds for this scanning depth problem. 

The ensemble of rational and irrational numbers am called real numbers. Clearly, the sum, difference and product of two real numbers is real. The division of two ted numbers is defined in all cases but one - division by zero. Your computer will spit out an error message if you try to divide by zero ... 

It should be noted that computer programs written to calculate y(x) = sinxfx will usually fail at the point x = 0. The computer will display a division by zero error message. The point x = 0 must be treated separately and die value of the limit (y = 1) inserted. However, intelligent programs such as Maihematica avoid this problem.

Sometimes variables are not found when the program is compiling. Often this can be due to one of the comment brackets missing, usually on the right side. MADONNA does not presently test for bracket pairs, and a missing bracket means that the whole program will be read as a comment The error message is usually Undetermined comment" or expect = . 

This error message comes up when something does not calculate correctly, such as dividing by zero. This is a common error that occurs when equations contain a variable in the denominator that is initially zero. Often it is possible to add a very small number to it, so that the denominator is never exactly zero. These cases can usually be located by outputing a table of all the variables. 

Referring back to Matlab, it is very important to use the correct slash operator or / for the left and right pseudo inverse. Applying the wrong one will invariably result in an error message or worse, in a potentially undetected error. 

It makes no sense whatsoever to try to calculate the spectra of species that are known not to absorb, by applying the equation A=C+Y. Often C will be rank deficient and cannot be pseudo-inverted. Matlab will issue an error message that needs to be taken seriously. Even if C is not rank deficient, it is not reasonable to allow the calculation of the spectrum of a non-absorbing... 

Note While a ring is being drawn, only the fixed vertex and the vertex accompanying the mouse in its movements can be fused with pre-existing atoms. If you try to fuse any other of the ring s atoms, an error message will appear.

EXERCISE 5-111 Find the magnitude and phase of the voltage Vo for frequencies from 10 Hz to 1 kHz. Note that LI is coupled to L2, but L3 is not coupled to either LI or L2. The 100 G 2 resistor is used to isolate the two loops. In an actual circuit there would not be a connection between the two loops. However, PSpice requires all portions of a circuit to be referenced to ground. If the 100 G 2 resistor were replaced by an open circuit, the circuit would still function in the same way if tested in the lab, but the right loop would not have a ground reference. Without the 100 G 2 resistor, PSpice will generate an error message and will not simulate the circuit. 

Convergence problems have been observed in some transient simulations of circuits with switches, such as the circuit on page 334. You will notice this error because the transient simulation terminates prematurely. If you look at the output file, an error message near the end of the file will indicate a convergence problem. The problem can be fixed by choosing a smaller value of Maximum Step Size, or by using one of the methods mentioned in Section 6.A.3. 

If we make a subcircuit out of this circuit, we could run into problems when the circuit is used. A problem that may result is that, if any of the terminals are not connected to other circuit elements, PSpice may generate an error message that only one element is connected to a certain node. To avoid this problem, we will add resistors to the circuit that do not affect its operation ... 

C. Suppress Simula on error messages in waveform data file. Inilialiia all lipHlops to ... 

This is a warning message and not an error message. The warning is that pin CEXT of U2A (our 74123) is connected to other components, and that this pin is not modeled. In a real 74xxl23 IC, R4 and Cl would determine the pulse width. In the model used by PSpice, pins 14 and 15 are not used and the pulse width is set by the property Pulse. This error message warns us that we might have made a mistake because we used these pins and they have no effect on the simulation. Pins 14 and 15 are provided in the event you want to create a PC board and will have components connected to pins 14 and 15. 

The error message says that the DC property of Vi is undefined. Click the OK button to close the dialog box ... 

When we double-click on the green washer we get the error message ... 

Attention If the plotted spectrum does not correspond to the preview display, e.g. only part of the spectrum is plotted, and an error message appears on your output device, readjust the set up of the 2D spectrum. It may be that the memory size of your output device is not large enough with respect to the required printing, that the option for a full page plot is disabled or that a configuration parameter for the output device has not been set correctly.
