Silicone sealers

Impedance diagram technique. The polarization cell consisted in a transparent plastic tube that was adhered to the paint surface by means of a silicone sealer. The tube contained distilled water and a 25 cm platinized titanium sheet, which was used as auxiliary electrode. Measurements were made with... [Pg.89]

Notice how the flame operations (generating steam, superheating steam, etc.) are secluded from the flammable vapor reaction part of the work bench. Both of these sections should be made vapor-proof with a generous quantity of silicon sealer (bathtub caulking is OK also). Put your sealer on all mating surfaces and cracks, inside and out. [Pg.131]

Pierce the tip of the cone with the skewer until only about three-eights of an inch is left inside. Using a small nozzle, add silicone sealer until the front part of the cone is full, covering the skewer. Let dry. [Pg.75]

The CPA or "Snake Pen" consists of a pen body containing a porous wick, such as that used in felt pens, and a solution ofDMSO and any number of toxins. When the wick is touched to the victim s skin he receives a fatal dose of poison. The CPA is built from a correction fluid pen, available at any office supply store. These pens have a soft, flexible body and are easy to modify. Unscrew the top from the son pen body, squeeze out the correction fluid and flush the interior with solvent to remove all traces of its original contents. Note that most of these pens have a left-hand thread on the body. The tip of the pen is sawed off and the valve stem carefully removed. Ream out the pen tip to fit the wick. A felt tip marker pen works well as a wick, after being soaked and rinsed in sol vent to remove traces of ink. It may be necessary to trim the wick to fit. Press the wick into the pen tip until about 3/8 " protrudes and seal around it with silicone sealer. When the sealant is dry, put on rubber gloves and, using a hypodermic syringes, inject the DMSO solution into the pen barrel until it is about 3/ 4 full. Be sure not to squeeze the pen while accomplishing this. Coat the barrel threads with a little silicone sealer, screw on the cap and allow the pen to dry in a vertical position. Line the inside of the cap... [Pg.129]

Patch the leaks using heavy-duty aluminum tape, insulating mud, or silicone sealers, and weld up any loose sheet metal. [Pg.266]

Exhaust stacks for gas turbines should be fabricated in corrosion-resistant carbon steel. Also, stacks should be protected externally by an aluminum metal spray with an aluminum silicone sealer. Care should be taken to ensure that the design eliminates thermal fatigue. [Pg.82]

Epoxy based primer systems remain the best suited for the corrosion protection of magnesium. Cathodic epoxy electrophoretic paints , chromate inhibited epoxy-polyamide primers and high temperature stoving epoxy sealers are used to provide protection up to 180°C. For higher temperature applications up to 300°C, epoxy silicone or polyimide based systems can be used. [Pg.758]

In some applications, impulse sealers are being replaced by machines which employ a continuously heated knife. In such machines, the film is supported across a roller which is coated with a resilient material such as silicone rubber (to which molten polyethylene will not adhere) and the hot knife edge pressed on to it. A strong bead edge seal is obtained. [Pg.74]

Dental root treatment commonly comprises removal of the necrotic pulp or its remnants, cleaning, widening, and sterilization of the root canal, and filling of the prepared canal with core and sealing materials. Popular core materials are silver, gutta-percha, and silicon rubber points, and these are sealed in place by a cement sealer. [Pg.964]

The root canal sealers based on silicone are a variation on the addition-polymerized silicone used clinically as an impression material [62]. They have been modified to improve their flow, but their essential chemistry is the same. They consist of two-paste systems comprising a base and a catalyst paste. The silicone components are a polydimethylsiloxane polymer blended with paraffin oil and filled with finely divided zirconium dioxide. This latter substance both reinforces the set silicone material and confers radiopacity. [Pg.207]

Silicone-based endodontic sealers have to be mixed immediately prior to use [62,63], and this is done using a mechanical delivery system that ensures complete mixing of both pastes without the incorporation of air. Also present in one of the pastes is a trace of platinum to act as catalyst for the setting reaction. Setting involves pendant unsaturated groups on one of the polymer chains reacting with a hydrogen atom attached directly to a silicon atom (Fig. 10.4). The reaction results in cross-links between the polysiloxane chains, and these cause the material to set to a resilient rubbery solid [13]. [Pg.207]

Silicone endodontic sealers are formulated with very small particle size particles of zirconium oxide. This means that the unset silicone paste is able to achieve very thin film thickness, typically of the order of 5 pm. This ensures good flow into surface irregularities and also good adaption to the walls of the root canal. [Pg.207]

Silicone endodontic sealers in their set state are insoluble materials with good dimensional stability [62,63]. They undergo a slight expansion on setting, which... [Pg.207]

Concrete flooring in the brine area is liable to disintegration by brine, and it is protected by coating with materials such as magnesium or zinc fluosilicate, epoxy or silicone penetrating sealers, and drying oils. Concrete surfaces exposed to mechanical wear are treated with 3- to 6-mm thick epoxy surfacing materials. Sumps and trenches employ reinforced polyester or epoxy resin systems. [Pg.1329]

Silicones have not been included. Although these products are frequently included in discussions of structural adhesives, in most applications they perform the function of a sealer. It must be admitted that the distinction between a sealer and an adhesive is sometimes difficult to make, particularly with high-performance materials (such as silicones) for which adhesive/sealant is a better description. [Pg.5]

The application of coatings and sealers provides resistance to concrete attack by minimizing the ingress of corrosive species into concrete and increasing the durability of the concrete. They belong to several types depending on applications. The sealers may be applied as lining for the pores which make concrete water repellent. Silicone resins have been successfiilly used. They deposit... [Pg.630]

They may also be applied as pore lining to make the concrete surface water repellent. Silicone compound and silane are frequently used as pore liners. A schematic figure illustrating the lining of pores by sealers is shown in Fig. 12.18. The sealers can also be used to build up reaction product within the pores which block up the pores. Silicofluorides are most commonly used. They react with Ca(OH)2 in the concrete to form sflicofluoride compounds which block up the pores. [Pg.630]
