Remedial Training

Description Driving is a profession requiring skill, knowledge, physical and mental health and character integrity. Public safety and company reputation requires that drivers be fully qualified. Drivers who are not qualified should receive remedial training or be terminated if they cannot be brought up to the necessary level of competence.

Remedial training can be assigned or developed as a result of yearly training needs for the experienced and model drivers. 

Remedial training involves locating and retraining drivers that are no longer meeting the company s expectations. The exact content of the remedial training would be based on the driver s problem area. 

While average performance in most functions deteriorates witii age, individual differences increase significantly so that chronological age is not a very valid indicator of a specific individual s performance. This makes chronological age a questionable decision criterion for license restrictions or remedial training (Midwinter, 2005). 

Provide required remedial training to employees with HOS-performance issues that can be addressed by enhancing their knowledge and skills. 

Provide required remedial training to controlled substance and alcohol test administrators when their knowledge is not current.
