Process automation

This section describes the automation of freeze-drying processes. The automatic loading and unloading a freeze-drying plant can be found in Section 2.4.1. [Pg.268]

The development section serves as an intermediary between laboratory and industrial scale and operates the pilot plant. A dkect transfer from the laboratory to industrial-scale processes is stiH practiced at some small fine chemicals manufacturers, but is not recommended because of the inherent safety, environmental, and economic risks. Both equipment and plant layout of the pilot plant mirror those of an industrial multipurpose plant, except for the size (typically 100 to 2500 L) of reaction vessels and the degree of process automation. [Pg.436]

The ultimate responsibility for safety rests with me operating company OSHA 1910.119 is clear on this. Each company is expected to develop (and enforce) its own practices in the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of safety systems. Fortunately, some companies make these documents public. Membrane processes also offer other advantages over conventional treatments. They reduce the number of unit processes in treatment systems for clarification and disinfection and increase the potential for process automation and plant compactness. Designers also thought membrane plants could be much smaller than conventional plants of the same capacity and, given their modular configuration, could be easily expanded. Additionally, these plants would produce less sludge than conventional plants because they wouldn t use such chemicals as coagulants or polymers. [Pg.357]

Process automation implies the real time acquisition and control of process variables such as temperature, agitation, material delivery, or quality control measurements. As far as the MARS system is concerned, a real time process is just like any instrument. The acquisition module merely requires more interactive monitoring, alarms, and control. This can be accomplished by means of a real time multi-tasking data acquisition module. [Pg.20]

The continued success of silicon technology needs to keep progressing in terms of both a reduction of material consumption and an increase in device efficiency. Other goals relate to reduced energy content, environmental aspects, standards and manufacturing aspects such as process automation and control. [Pg.351]

In the 1990s the major focus was on system validation, on assuring the quality control (QC) of the hardware and software that operated the manufacturing process, automated the laboratories, and controlled the inventory. As that validation process achieved mainstream acceptance and majority saturation it is appropriate to ask What next Where can we and the regulators most productively next turn our attention to maintain continuous quality improvement ... [Pg.228]

In the past, filament-wound parts consisted primarily of axisymmetric cylinders, spheres and domed vessels. Several manufacturing techniques have been developed that allow more complex shapes and curvatures while maintaining the cost effectiveness associated with process automation [52], These methods have emerged because of advances in programming software. These advances enable precise positioning of the moving head and allow real-time simulation of fiber paths. [Pg.415]
