Automated processes

Programs to develop MCFC technology are also under way in Europe. Ansaldo SpA (Italy) is setting up faciUties to produce 1-m cells in an automated process, and their goal is to test 100-kW stacks in 1994. The 100-kW stack is also to be tested by IBERDROLA in Spain as part of a complete power plant system. Two Dutch companies. Stork and Royal Schelde, have joined with the Dutch government to form Brandstofcel Nederland (BCN), which plans to test a 50-kW MCFC and two 250-kW MCFC stacks in 1994. [Pg.584]

Automated processes use close control of riming and/or temperature to provide optimum temperature gradients and uniformheating. [Pg.347]

The continuous methods combine sample collection and the measurement technique in one automated process. The measurement methods used for continuous analyzers include conductometric, colorimetric, coulometric, and amperometric techniques for the determination of SO2 collected in a liquid medium (7). Other continuous methods utilize physicochemical techniques for detection of SO2 in a gas stream. These include flame photometric detection (described earlier) and fluorescence spectroscopy (8). Instruments based on all of these principles are available which meet standard performance specifications. [Pg.201]

The crystallization kinetics defines the open time of the bond. For automated industrial processes, a fast crystallizing backbone, such as hexamethylene adipate, is often highly desirable. Once the bond line cools, crystallization can occur in less than 2 min. Thus, minimal time is needed to hold or clamp the substrates until fixturing strength is achieved. For specialty or non-automated processes, the PUD backbone might be based on a polyester polyol with slow crystallization kinetics. This gives the adhesive end user additional open time, after the adhesive has been activated, in which to make the bond. The crystallization kinetics for various waterborne dispersions were determined by Dormish and Witowski by following the Shore hardness. Open times of up to 40 min were measured [60]. [Pg.791]

Systematic consideration of human error is neglected because of the belief that computerization of processes will make the human unnecessary. Experience shows numerous accidents in computer controlled plants. Human involvement in critical areas of maintenance and plant modification, continues even in the most automated processes. [Pg.166]

The word process is from Latin and defines many different aspects. The automation process relates to the automatic regulation required to control the physical conditions in a system. The term process relates to both the optimal conditions within which the operation is maintained and when the operation varies with time or by a predetermined plan. [Pg.775]

At present, cell culture work is done mostly by hand by horticulturists in large greenhouses (Plate 3). Chemical engineers could greatly increase the usefulness of this method of plant propagation by developing efficient automated processes for producing plants from cloned cells. [Pg.36]

The precision of time series predictions far into the future may be limited. Time series analysis requires a relatively large amount of data. Precautions are necessary if the time intervals are not approximately equal (9). However, when enough data can be collected, for example, by an automated process, then time series techniques offer several distinct advantages over more traditional statistical techniques. Time series techniques are flexible, predictive, and able to accommodate historical data. Time series models converge quickly and require few assumptions about the data. [Pg.98]

Web in the life of the medicinal chemist. One may see the development of alerting services for the primary medicinal chemistry journals. The Web-based information search process could be replaced by a much more structured one based on metadata, derived by automated processing of the original full-text article. To discover new and potentially interesting articles, the user subscribes to the RSS feeds of relevant publishers and can simply search the latest items that appear automatically for keywords of interest. The article download is still necessary, but it may be possible for the client software to automatically invoke bibliographic tools to store the found references. Another application of the Chemical Semantic Web may be as alerting services for new additions to chemical databases where users get alerts for the new additions of structures or reactions. [Pg.305]

An interesting development is the combination of HPLC and on-line measurement of reducing capacity or antioxidative activity. This approach allows both direct identification of antioxidative species in complex foods and quantification of the contribution to the overall antioxidative capacity in the absence of synergistic and antagonistic effects. Major advantages are less sample handling and the ability to rim large series of samples in an automated process. [Pg.333]

What is less clear is how, or whether, the roles of pharmacists will grow or advance. Since no significant increase in the number of practicing pharmacists can be foreseen in the immediate future to take on this increasing workload, while hopefully continuing to expand services and the delivery of pharmaceutical care, pharmacy clearly faces a major challenge. More use of better trained, certified, or even licensed technicians is one approach. More automation and computerization is another. A rapid growth in the expected use of electronic prescriptions may also allow further efficiencies—even the prospect of a paperless automated process. [Pg.822]

The capability to analyze 2DLC data by the automated process, and the ability to resolve component-level behaviors within complex protein separations enabled us to undertake a subsequent series of comparative experiments where protein behaviors within a cellular lysate were analyzed using both step and linear gradients in a 2DLC/MS experiment. This will be described in the following sections of this chapter. [Pg.304]

This book describes methods for the visualization and modeling of structure from scattering data. Some steps towards an automated processing of large amounts of data have already been done, but must be continued. These methods are the basis of quantitative research in the fields that are mentioned in the following. [Pg.52]
