Partly Additive

This chapter is divided in two parts additives for motor fuels and additives for lubricants. Concerning additives for gasoline, one will find here in Chapter 9 some useful complements to Chapter 5, especially regarding the synthesis of additives and their modes of action. [Pg.345]

For the most part, additives control the appHcation or theological properties of a paint. These additives include materials for latex paints such as hydroxyethylceUulose, hydrophobicaHy modified alkah-soluble emulsions, and hydrophobicaHy modified ethylene oxide urethanes. Solvent-based alkyd paints typically use castor oil derivatives and attapulgite and bentonite clays. The volume soHds of a paint is an equally important physical property affecting the apphcation and theological properties. Without adequate volume soHds, the desired appHcation and theological properties may be impossible to achieve, no matter how much or many additives are incorporated into the paint. [Pg.543]

Today, radon and its decay products in indoor air are by far the most important contributors to the exposure of the public to ionizing radiation and may be responsible for as much as 10-20% of the lung cancer cases (Steindorf etal. 1995, Lubin 1994). Synergism with smoking was found in several studies, but recent assessments of the data indicate that the two agents may act in part additively. Smoking may also reduce the latent period. [Pg.1164]

This paper is not the proper forum for comprehensive aluminum data, but in developing any theory of glitter the theory must account for most observed phenomena. The phenomena of the wet reacted aluminum has been handled in part. Additionally it is observed that such aluminum does not react as quickly with a drop of water or sodium hydroxide solution after it is removed from the spritzel reactions. Dye absorption techniques confirm this microscopically. Can the theory of oxidizer accumulation in the spritzel reactions account for this damaged aluminum performance Asymmetrical spritz with flitter-like residues would be expected, diminished brilliance of the spritz and greatly increased delay would be expected, and a failure to fire in a spritz-like flash would be expected in the extreme case. All of these are observed. Aluminums of high surface-to-mass ratio would be expected to fire as spritz in the spritzels at relatively low sulfate concentrations unless other factors override this condition, such as viscosity and mobility of fluid transport in the spritzel. This is... [Pg.43]

Various functions of the refractive index multiplied by the molecular weight have been found to be partly additive and partly constitutive. They are made up additively from contributions by the various atoms in the molecule, provided that corrections are applied for the modes of binding of individual atoms. At one time... [Pg.222]

A complete blood count, or a blood panel, is a medical test to measure the absolute numbers and ratios of different cell types in a given blood sample. In hospital environments, this is one of the most frequently required tests and also recommended as part of regular physical examinations. The test can be applied as a three- or a five-part differential blood count. Both enumerate the erythrocyte (red blood cells, RBCs) and thrombocytes (platelet) content of a whole blood sample. A three part additionally differentiates leukocytes (white blood cells, WBCs) enumerates, while a five-part differential further differentiates the WBCs into lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils. [Pg.1884]

The primary functional parts of a dry powder inhaler are schematically shown in Fig. 6.6 and include a powder formulation, a dose (measuring) system, a dispersion principle for the powder formulation, a mouthpiece and a housing for all parts. Additionally, the inhaler may have various secondary features, including a dose counter, giving the number of doses left in the device, a compartment with desiccant to keep the powder formulation dry and a signalling to the patient that the inhalation manoeuvre is correct or has been completed. Different choices can be made for each of the functional parts and a good and compatible combination has to be chosen and developed to obtain the maximal result. [Pg.112]

Another option, CYASORB UV-3853 Hght stabilizer, is a mixtin-e of three z-alkyl esters which affords enhanced polyolefin compatibility (reducedblooming) and solubility. These factors have been shown to have a dramatic effect on stabilization efficacy in some applications. For example, CYASORB UV-3853 exhibits significantly better stabilization performance in PP despite only half the molar activity (piperidinyl groups per mole) as compared with Tinuvin 770 (Fig. 6). The comparable volatility of the products indicates that the difference in performance cannot be associated with that parameter. Also, in thick section parts, additive loss is generally controlled by diffusion and not by additive volatility. Since the products are similar in molecular weight (MW), one would expect their diffusion coefficients to be similar. If the solubility parameters of the products differed sufficiently, that could accoimt for the performance differences studies (49) have borne this out. [Pg.8725]

In eq. 2 E51 is added to realize the quasi static contribution of permittivity due to polarizability of the lattice plus electronic part. Additional dipole contribution with relaxations between frequencies as realized here and the far infrared could contribute. A separation of the frequency independent and frequency dependent contributions could be obtained using first derivatives of eq. 1 and 2, namely... [Pg.105]

To develop the survey instrument, previous studies about ECR and cooperation as well as own research results were used. Overall, the eight-page questionnaire consisted of three groups of questions. The first part investigated to which extent the requirements for successful cooperation between manufacturers and retailers were fulfilled. In the second part, the current implementation ratio of the different ECR instruments was investigated. In the third part, additional data concerning the enterprise and the respondent were collected. [Pg.155]

As in the case of the panel-plate additive method, the partly additive process starts with copper-clad laminate. The essence of this process is to minimize the problem encountered in etching fineline conductors through thick copper which results from through-hole plating (in the conventional etched foil process, throu -hole is plated first), by forming conductors first, prior to through-hole plating. [Pg.742]
