The unit can be fed polymer in the particulate solids form or as strips, as in the case of rubber extrusion. The solids (usually in pellet or powder form) in the hopper flow by gravity into the screw channel, where they are conveyed through the solids conveying section. They are compressed by a drag-induced mechanism in the transition section. In other words, melting is accomplished by heat transfer from the heated barrel surface and by mechanical shear heating. [Pg.96]

PDW) model. It represents a model of the objects and concepts identified in the rubber extrusion domain as well as the relations between them. As a result of that, inside this MErKoFer ontology, the process structure, products and description artifacts are stored as well as instances of the executed production processes themselves, together with all related information. This includes the characteristic situations idf iitified by the described mechanisms. [Pg.692]

Rubber extrusion is used to convert feed into a continuous finished product such as rods, mbes or profiles. Feed material is introduced into a hopper and conveyed forwards by a rotating screw (which is driven hy an electric motor). This is similar to the process shown in Figure 6.18 for thermoset extrusion. [Pg.409]

A static pinch valve can be mounted on a bench station, or alternatively, on an automatic line. A typical bench application would be bonding the ends of a rubber extrusion to make up car door seals. In the case of an automatic line, a free-fall drop could be dispensed on to a component part located beneath the static pinch valve or, alternatively, a bead applied to a component part as it traverses beneath the pinch valve nozzle. [Pg.109]

The rubber extrusion technology appears to be considerably behind the plastics extrusion technology. Kennaway, in one of the few articles on rubber extrusion [8], attributes this situation to two factors. The first is the frequent tendency of rubber process personnel to solve extrusion problems by changing the formulation of the compound. The second is the widespread notion that the extrusion behavior of rubbers is substantially different from plastics, because rubbers crosslink and plastics generally do not. This is a misconception, however, because the extrusion characteristics of rubber and plastics are actually not substantially different [9]. [Pg.20]

Another typical rubber extrusion piece of hardware is the roller die. A schematic representation is shown in Fig. 2.9. [Pg.22]
