Other topics recently studied by XPS include the effects of thermal treatment on the morphology and adhesion of the interface between Au and the polymer trimethylcy-clohexane-polycarbonate [2.72] the composition of the surfaces and interfaces of plasma-modified Cu-PTFE and Au-PTFE, and the surface structure and the improvement of adhesion [2.73] the influence of excimer laser irradiation of the polymer on the adhesion of metallic overlayers [2.74] and the behavior of the Co-rich binder phase of WC-Co hard metal and diamond deposition on it [2.75]. 

The mechanical behavior of polymers, as well as many other topics in polymer engineering, are presented in an up-to-date way in a book by McCrum et al. (1998). 

Obviously, the foregoing description of problems in the mechanics of composite materials is incomplete. Some topics do not fit well within the logical framework just described. Other topics are too advanced for an introductory book, even at the graduate level. Thus, the rest of this chapter is devoted to a brief discussion of some basic lamina and laminate analysis and behavior characteristics that are not included in preceding chapters.

This symposium addressed several important issues in bromine chemistry. A major part has been devoted to stereochemistry and mechanism of electrophilic bromination of olefins. Natural Product Updates, a monthly publication begun in 1987 and published by the Royal Society of Chemistry, lists recent results in the chemistry of natural products, along with stmctural formulas. It covers new compounds, structure determinations, new properties and total syntheses, among other topics. 

P.G. Unna, a German dermatologist, was the first to describe the properties and use of salicylic acid. It has since been used for many decades as a keratolytic agent in concentrations of 3 to 6%. Salicylic acid is frequently utilized in topical acne preparations because of its comed-olytic effects. In addition, it facilitates the penetration of other topical agents. 

Other topical bleaching agents include arbu-tin, licorice, unsaturated fatty acids, soy extracts, serine protease inhibitors, ellagic acid and resveratrol.
