Achievability limits

A. E. Broderick (Union Carbide). HEC did not become a viable commercial product until the early 1960s. In addition to the general production problems and market development costs, new products face a variety of environmental controls in the 1990s that add more constraints to market development. None the less two more recentiy developed water-soluble polymers have achieved limited market acceptance and are described below. [Pg.320]

In the 1950s, meprobamate, a propandiole, and methaqualone, a quiQa2oline, achieved limited clinical importance. Piperidindiones including glutethimide and methyprylon were also used. [Pg.218]

The principal problems for sdicone mbber as a viable lens material are the nonpolar nature, which gives Hpid deposits and wettabdity problems and the tendency to adhere to the cornea. Efforts to modify the sdicone lens surface for improved wettabdity have achieved limited success. These efforts include grafting hydrophilic monomers, such as HEMA, GM (150), and NVP (151—153), to the lens surface and plasma treatments of finished lenses. Efforts to improve the movement of sdicone lenses on the cornea with various lens designs have not been successfld, and the cause of lens—cornea adherence, which is not an exclusive problem of sdicone lenses, is an active area of research. [Pg.105]

The promise of 3-D detectors The ideal detector would be able to measure the wavelength dimension of each photon in addition to the two spatial dimensions - a 3-D detector . There is progress being made on 3-D detectors - for example, the superconducting tunneling junction (STJ). However, at present, 3-D detectors are experimental and have only achieved limited wavelength resolution ( /5 < 25) with relatively slow count rates (few kHz per pixel) on a small number of pixels 100 j. Since these devices are experimental and are not being used... [Pg.126]

Several different types of electrodes have been used in this analysis. Conventionally, a platinum (Ft) electrode has been employed in ACh and Ch analysis. Yasumatsu and colleagues (1998) used this method to measure ACh and Ch in tissue extracts and microdialysates, achieving mean concentrations of 0.06 pmol/ 10 pi and 0.64 pmol/10 pi of preoptic or anterior hypothalamus dialysate respectively. Rakovska and colleagues (2003) also analyzed microdialysates with a similar procedure, achieving limits of detection of 500 finol for ACh and 250 finol for Ch. [Pg.27]

Lehr, C.-M., From sticky stuff to sweet receptors—Achievements, limits and novel approaches to bioadhesion, Ewr. J. Drug Metab. Pharmacokinet., 21 139-148 (1996). [Pg.191]

Two recently developed water-soluble polymers have achieved limited market acceptance. [Pg.1738]

Although the lower limit of quantitation is established during assay validation and prior to microdosing, assay sensitivity remains an uncertainty until the actual analysis of the microdose samples as well. There is always the danger that plasma exposures from the microdose are lower than predicted and as a result plasma concentrations from some or all of the time points cannot be detected by the LC-MS/MS method. Reduction of this risk is achieved by collaborative communication between the bioanalytical chemist and the project team. Conservative estimates on bioavailability and clearance can be used to establish the necessary limit of detection needed to determine plasma concentrations for all time points. Updates on the progress of the assay development allow the team to decide if the achievable limit of detection will enable the determination of plasma concentrations from enough time points to make a go-no go decision. Of course, sensitivity is not an issue with AMS, which practically ensures that plasma concentrations will be determined, possibly for several days, enabling the observation of complex PK and clearance from deep compartments. [Pg.116]

Anthrimides and Other Linked Anthraquinones. Among the anthrimides (dia-nthraquinonyl-amines), only the a,(3 derivatives have achieved limited importance as vat dyes. Coupling two anthraquinone molecules via functional derivatives of the 2-aldehyde (or 2-carboxy) group offers another type of building block for vat dyes. Such compounds, e.g., 1-aminoanthraquinones, are linked in the 2-position via an azine or oxadiazole group, and all have good fastness. [Pg.190]

Separations in Protocol 9 are comparable to those of SDS-PAGE but each sample run is less than 20 min and more accurate quantitation can be achieved. Limits of protein impurity detection in CGE systems with absorbance detection at a low UV wavelengths are approximately 0.1% (1000 ppm). This is about 10-fold lower than the detection limit of SDS-PAGE. [Pg.46]

Several kinds of processes and equipment that do not fit readily into the categories of earlier chapters have achieved limited but nevertheless valuable applications in chemical processing. Many of them are offered by only a few manufacturers and the performance and economic data are highly proprietary. Here the objective is primarily to describe the principles involved, to point out the... [Pg.631]

Table 1 classifies the different types of pollutants according to their chemical structure and summarizes the main HPLC techniques used for their determination. The objective is to suggest a suitable HPLC technique for each type of organic compound and to provide information on quality parameters and applicability in real environmental problems. All methods proposed are actually being accepted by the US EPA and permit one to achieve limits of detection at the low ppb-ppt level and reproducibilities below 10%. [Pg.1214]

A number of assumptions must be made in such calculations, and Hagan and Coury [34] studying the ferrocyanide/ferricyanide redox couple in aqueous KC1 at a 1 mm radius platinum disk arrived at a figure of 160,000 rpm. This corresponds to a very fast rotation that would be situated in the turbulent flow regime at a conventional rotating disk, and suggests that ultrasound can achieve limiting-current conditions beyond those attainable in practice by rotation. These workers... [Pg.221]

Research in dimensional stabilization over the last 50 years has achieved limited but specific goals it has yet to fulfil its broader objectives. Niche markets, sueh as the use of polyethylene glycol (PEG) in the treatment of marine and waterlogged artefacts are well established. New technologies for commercial scale treatment of timber by acetylation, and for various heat treatments, have reached the market in the last decade, and may increase in importance in future. [Pg.113]

The process was exploited commercially as the Dry Sol finish. It achieved limited success but was ultimately discarded because sulphuryl chloride was an extremely difficult chemical to handle. [Pg.277]

These experimental data indicated that the lanthanide complexes of the new ligand, particularly the Tb one, are suitable for application as luminescent labels in TRF microscope imaging techniques, and that they could allow to achieve limits of detection similar to those obtained with CL enzyme-labelled probes. [Pg.264]

From the point of view of importance and chemical feasibility, chloramphenicol (Figure 9) presented an excellent subject for structural modification. It was the first truly broad-spectrum antibiotic isolated, and its structure and total synthesis were both reported two years after the discovery was announced (40, 41, 42). The synthesis of chloramphenicol analogs proved to be one of the great disappointments of early chemical research in the antibiotic field. Hundreds of analogs were synthesized, but none was found superior to the parent drug in terms either of antimicrobial activity or therapeutic index (43). The palmitate and hemisuccinate esters have provided superior dosage forms for oral and parenteral use. One synthetic analog, thiamphenicol (44) has achieved limited use in human and veterinary medicine. [Pg.60]
