Names of acid salts

GO, witn Compounds formed. Empirical formula of acid. Name of acid. Salts. [Pg.387]

That hydrogen is present in an acid is implied in the name by the word acid, not by the word hydrogen . For example, HCl is hydrochloric acid. The word hydrogen is used in names of acid salts, such as sodium hydrogen carbonate, NaHCOs. [Pg.189]

Some questions have been asked about the proper naming of acid salts. The modem rule is to use the prefix di - (for M RX, except where... [Pg.142]

The discussion of interatomic distances in salts of oxygen acids of the second-row elements is presented in Table IV. In the first row of this table, below the names of the salts, there are given values of the electronegativity difference xa — xb, in the second row the sum of the single-bond radii, in the third row the Schomaker-Stevenson correction, and in the fourth row the single-bond interatomic distance. The next row contains the fractional amount of ionic character of the a bond, as given by the electronegativity difference with use of Table... [Pg.237]

Names of the salts formed upon condensation with an acid are added after the chemical names. For instance, [3-(2-chloropheno-thiazine-10-yl)propyl]dimethylamine hydrochloride [4. ... [Pg.100]

In his Elective Attractions, Torbern Bergman stated emphatically that the so-called sedative salt is not a salt but an acid. The substance commonly called sedative salt, said he, is more nearly allied to acids than any other class of bodies. It reddens turnsole and saturates alkalis and soluble earths. It also dissolves various metals, and has other properties which shew its acid nature, and it seems better entitled to the name of acid of borax than to that of sedative salt (66). [Pg.575]

The emulsifying agent was prepared from stearic acid and triethanolamine. Give the name of this salt. Write its formula. [Pg.417]

Since concentrated acid is not required in the preparation, large-scale manufacture of the product, under the name of R-salt, was under active consideration at one time during the Second World War. However, even though easily prepared and powerful, the explosive has not yet been used in practice owing to its limited chemical and thermal stability. [Pg.123]

The name of a salt of a carboxylic acid consists of the name of the cation (sodium potassium ammonium etc.) followed by the name of the acid with the ending -ic acid changed to -ate. For example ... [Pg.582]

The amidoazobenzene hydrochloride came into the market formerly, as a yellow dye, under tire name of Aniline Yellow. At present, it is scarcely used, but there is prepared from it, by heating with sulphuric acid, a mono- or di-sulphonic acid, which in the form of its alkali salts finds application as a dye under the name of Acid Yellow, or Fast Yellow. As already mentioned under the dis-azo dyes, from the diazo-compound of this dye, Biebrich Scarlet may be made-by combination with /3-naphthol. Finally, the amidoazobenzene is still used for the preparation of the Induline dyes. [Pg.239]

Carboxylic acids are named by adding the suffix oic acid to the base name. Acid chlorides are name by changing the ic acid of the parent carboxylic acid to yl chloride. The suffix acid is changed to anhydride to name acid anhydrides. Esters are named like acid salts by changing ic acid to ate and preceding the name by the name of the alkyl group. To name amides, the oic acid is changed to amide. [Pg.291]

These salts are recognised by their being decomposed with effervescence, the gas disengaged having no offensive smell, when acted on by acids. All the soluble carbonates, even those containing 2 eq. of acid to 1 of base, are alkaline, so that the title -of carbonic acid to the name of acid is doubtful. [Pg.234]

The first word of the name of an ester is the name of the alkyl or aromatic group (R ) contributed by the alcohol. The second word is the carboxylic acid name, with the -ic acid ending changed to -ate. This is similar to the method used for naming carboxylic acid salts. Thus, an ester of acetic acid becomes an acetate, one of butyric acid becomes a butyrate, one of lactic acid becomes a lactate, and so on. [Pg.179]

In the analogy with inorganic acids, the carboxylic acids can be neutralized by bases. The names of the salts which are formed after neutralization follow the inorganic nomenclature. [Pg.100]
