Resins formed from the reaction of poly(vinyl alcohol) with aldehydes. The formal derivative (from methanal) is used in wire coatings and adhesives and the bulyral (from butanal) is used in metal paints, wood-sealers, adhesives and in safety glass interlayers. [Pg.323]

Two blue pigments can be prepared in transparent form cyanide iron blue and cobalt aluminum blue. These pigments are used in achieving a blue shade of the metal effect pigments in metallic paints. Transparent cyanide iron blue is prepared by a precipitation reaction similar to the one used for the preparation of the opaque pigment, but considerably lower concentrations of solutions are used. Chlorates are strong oxidising agents. Dry materials, such as cloth, leather, or paper, contaminated with chlorate may be ignited easily by heat or friction. Extreme care must be taken to ensure that chlorates do not come in contact with heat, organic materials, phosphoms, ammonium compounds, sulfur compounds, oils, greases or waxes, powdered metals, paint, metal salts (especially copper), and solvents. Electrochemical tests This group includes the various electrochemical tests that have been proposed and used over the last fifty or so years. Finding a Method Various organizations publish volumes of methods for chemical analysis. One of the most well known is the American Society for Testing and Materials, or ASTM. The ASTM is a not-for-profit organization that provides a forum for producers, users, and consumers, to write standards for materials, products, systems, and services.
