Effect of Pollutants on the Metal/Paint Interface. "Table III." gives the results of different tests carried out on CR films applied to rusted steel surfaces (BSt 2) or surfaces... 

To study the effect of contaminants (chlorides and sulphates) at the interface metal/coating, a set of panels (surface A Sa 3) was prepared and dosed with solutions of NaCl and FeSO in distilled water and methanol. Subsequently, two paint systems (chlorinated rubber and polyurethane) were applied on these contaminated surfaces. 

Solid particle dispersions (Sols). Many lecithin products are still the best and most effective surfactants for dispersing sols. This seems to be because of lecithin s affinity for solids—liquid surface interfaces. Phospholipids seem particularly attracted to particles containing metals and metal salts. Examples of food sols include some liquid chocolates, instant drinks, frosting mixes, pigmented foods, and others. The nonfood applications include paints, inks, and other pigmented coatings. 

In order to study the effect of electrical forces on adhesion, it is convenient to consider two types of contact processes those occurring between a semiconductor (dust particle) and a metal (substrate) and those occurring between a semiconductor (dust particle) and another semiconductor (glass or painted metal substrate) [82]. In the contact zone there is a leveling out of the Fermi levels and a bending of the conduction and valence bands (Fig. IV. 1. b), with the simultaneous appearance of a contact potential difference at the interface between the two contacting bodies.
