Leaks/leakage valve

Gas line valves butterfly valves/dampers in gas lines are generally not leak-proof (up to 0.5-1.0% leakage is possible). If totally leak proof valve is required, then specially fabricated valve seats are to be asked for. A clearance of 1.0-1.5 mm between flap and body at ambient temperature may be specified, if actual operating temperature is on higher side. For example, valves at gas inlet and outlet of oleum boiler, a bypass route can be provided to nunimise flow of gases through the oleum boiler. [Pg.52]

Seat leakage is specified for conventional direct spring operated metal-to-metal seated valves by API RP 527. The important factor in understanding the allowable seat leak is that it is stated at 90% of set point. Therefore, unless special seat lapping is specified or soft seat designs used, a valve operating with a 10% differential between operating and set pressures may be expected to leak. [Pg.319]

Estimate acceptable air leakages resulting from leakage around static and rotary seals, valves, access ports, and other items of mechanical nature required for process operation from the following equations and the specific leak rates 0 indicated in Table 6-8, which is based on w < 10 lb/hr. [Pg.368]

Leaks in process vessels and devices such as valves are a serious problem in many industries. A variation of vibration monitoring and analysis can be used to detect leakage and isolate its source. Leak-detection systems use an accelerometer attached to the exterior of a process pipe. This allows the vibration profile to be monitored in order to detect the unique frequencies generated by flow or leakage. [Pg.665]

It should be noted that these can also be caused by other problems besides tank leakage, such as leaking valves, loose fittings, or other factors. [Pg.692]

Figure 4 shows the final ventilation system protection scheme. It should be noted that even with a blast valve that closes in a few milliseconds there will be some reduced shock pulse that "leaks through" during closure of the valve. The peak value of this shock is a function of losses occurring as the shock passes through the valve and the duration is the valve closure time. The leakage shock was predicted using the blast valve manufacturers test data. [Pg.246]

Leak Leaks are typically developed from valve or pump seal packing failures, localized corrosion or erosion effects and are typically "small" to "pin-hole" sized (e.g., corrosion or erosion leakages). [Pg.42]

In addition to the vacuum valves, which perform solely an isolation function (fully open - fully closed position), special valves are needed for special functions. Typical are variable leak valves, which cover the leakage range from 10" ° cm /s (NTP) up to 1.6 10 cm /s (NTP). These valves are usually motor driven and suitable for remote control and when they are connected to a pressure gauge, the process pressures can be set and maintained. Other special valves fulfill safety functions, such as rapid, automatic cut-off of diffusion pumps or vacuum systems in the event of a power failure. For example, SECUVAC valves belong to this group. In the event of a power failure, they cut off the vacuum system from the pumping system and vent the forevacuum system. The vacuum system is enabled only after a certain minimum pressure (about 200 mbar) has been attained once the power has been restored. [Pg.74]

The gas that accumulates inside the surface condenser is called the noncondensable load to the steam jets. Some of the noncondensable load consists of C02 accidentally produced when the boiler feedwater is vaporized into steam. Air leaks through piping flanges and valves are other sources of noncondensable vapors. But the largest source of noncondensable vapors is often air drawn into the turbine case, through the shaft s mechanical seals. To minimize this source of leaks, 2 or 3 psig of steam pressure is ordinarily maintained around the seals. However, as the turbine s shaft seals deteriorate, air in-leakage problems can overwhelm the jet capacity. This will cause a loss of vacuum in the surface condenser. [Pg.225]

For valves with O rings the gasket compression is more difficult to measure. Gasket compression has also been correlated to leakage, where a decrease in the leak rate occurs with increase in gasket compression. [Pg.381]

LESS OF Less Flow 9. Flange leakage or valve stub blanked but leaking Decreased absorption. Lower product make. Covered by a),c), and d). [Pg.179]

Soft-seated, leak-free and snap-acting valves are also recommended for cryogenic applications as the typical leakages allowed on metal-to-metal API valves could cause icing of the seat area, which could cause the valve to fail. [Pg.115]

Failure of bellows can be detected by medium leaking via the bonnet vent. As this is not always evident and detection systems not always very reliable, people have become very inventive in trying to detect bellows failure by putting whistles on the bonnet vent in order to detect leakages from the bonnet vent. The bottom line, however, is that bellows are a very vulnerable but, for its correct operation, very critical part of a spring-operated SRV. Bellow balanced valves need more frequent maintenance or at least checking in order to assure proper operation. The system might have an SRV installed but with the bellows invisibly ruptured, the SRV has no purpose whatsoever. [Pg.245]

Some of the renewable energy processes operate under high pressures (Fy, and others such as thermal solar systems circulate oils under high temperatures. In these and many other applications, leakage in tanks (under- or aboveground), valves, steam traps, or pipes must be detected. Table 3.107 lists the detectable leak rates of some common gases, including H2. [Pg.444]

The first leak to check is within the regulator To see if there is gas leakage past the diaphragm, rotate the pressure adjusting valve CCW until it is fully open, then slowly open the main tank valve. If any gas leaves the regulator, the regulator is defective or broken and needs repair or replacement. [Pg.283]

They will prevent the process components from leaking into the atmosphere, which can happen with relief valves. Conventional relief valves have an allowable leakage rate rupture disks do not. [Pg.118]
