Startup via a jet pump system. This allows for startup of the system in remote areas where the electricity grid is unavailable. [Pg.254]

Figure 5-14 shows a typical family tree for the dynamic pump family. Centrifugal pumps are often used in jet pump systems. A jet pump uses a unique design on the suction side of the pump to create a venturi effect as a portion of the discharge is pushed down the casing and back into the suction line. This process provides the lift needed to raise liquid levels that are lower than 40 feet. [Pg.125]

Diffusion Pump System. After the pump line and trap have been shut off, a large valve is opened slowly enough that the mass flow of gas from the chamber through the valve into the od-diffusion pump system does not dismpt the top jet of the diffusion pump (DP) (Fig. 4). When the Hquid nitrogen is replenished after the trap has been operated for some time, release of previously trapped gas must be avoided. The so-caded ionization-gauge response pips at the start of the Hquid-nitrogen replenishment are an indication of trap ineffectiveness. [Pg.369]

BWRs do not operate with dissolved boron like a PWR but use pure, demineralized water with a continuous water quality control system. The reactivity is controlled by the large number of control rods (>100) containing burnable neutron poisons, and by varying the flow rate through the reactor for normal, fine control. Two recirculation loops using variable speed recirculation pumps inject water into the jet pumps inside of the reactor vessel to increase the flow rate by several times over that in the recirculation loops. The steam bubble formation reduces the moderator density and... [Pg.211]

Mount the upper end piece of the filling tube and immediately connect it to the pump, open the column outlet, and start the pump at a flow rate of 10 ml/min (delivering water or any desired buffer system of low ionic strength). Optionally, the column outlet can be additionally connected to a water jet pump, which has to be operated during the first 2 min of packing. The water... [Pg.228]

ESO VLT/Max Planck CW Dye Laser. The MPI is developing a CW dye laser for deployment on one ESO 8-m VLT telescope in 2004 (Eig. 13). The oscillator is a Coherent 899 ring dye laser, with a 2-5 W output, pumped by a 10 W, Coherent Verdi frequency-doubled Nd YAG laser. The beam is amphfied in a four-pass amphfier with 4 high velocity dye jets pumped with 4 10 W Verdi lasers. The system utihzes Rhodamine 6G in ethylene glycol however, because of the high pump power, the dye degrades quickly, and must... [Pg.226]

Jet-cutting systems need to be compact and suitable for robotic action in automated trains of production. Usually the hyper-pressure plunger pumps for water-jet cutting purposes are based on hydraulic amplifiers, of double-cylinder design, and provide high pressure water of up to 5000 bar. [Pg.13]

Nuclear Boiler Assembly. This assembly consists of the equipment and instrumentation necessary to produce, contain, and control the steam required by the turbine-generator. The principal components of the nuclear boiler are (1) reactor vessel and internals—reactor pressure vessel, jet pumps for reactor water circulation, steam separators and dryers, and core support structure (2) reactor water recirculation system—pumps, valves, and piping used in providing and controlling core flow (3) main steam lines—main steam safety and relief valves, piping, and pipe supports from reactor pressure vessel up to and including the isolation valves outside of the primary containment barrier (4) control rod drive system—control rods, control rod drive mechanisms and hydraulic system for insertion and withdrawal of the control rods and (5) nuclear fuel and in-core instrumentation,... [Pg.1103]

When, on the other hand, a nondifferentially pumped system is used, direct coupling generally will be impossible. In that case either an open split device or a carrier gas separator must be installed. When using a jet or membrane separator, one should keep in mind that these devices have been designed for packed columns. Thus, make-up gas must be added to the column effluent to restore optimal working pressure and purge unswept volumes. [Pg.127]

The potassium bromide and sodium chloride, with > 99.5% purity, were obtained from Merck and used as received. The water used in the experiments was first pre-treated with a Milli-RO 10 Plus system and further purified with a Milli-Q PLUS 185 system. When used in the surface force apparatus it was deaerated for at least one hour using a water jet pump. All glassware was cleaned by Hellmanex... [Pg.125]

The main vacuum pumping system consists of a high-speed, singlejet, Illinois-type mercury diffusion pump, a two-jet Princeton-type mercury diffusion pump, and a Hyvac forepump. [Pg.141]

Air-displacement systems air lifts, acid eggs or blow cases, jet pumps, barometric legs... [Pg.515]

The pumps discussed in the preceding sections depend on the mechanical action of pistons, impellers, plungers, or other devices to move the fluid. Movement of fluids can also be accomplished by the use of air pressure, and many types of air-displacement systems have been developed for this purpose. The most common of these systems are air lifts, acid eggs, and jet pumps. [Pg.522]

A water-jet pump, sometimes known as an aspirator pump or filter pump, will reduce the pressure in a closed system to within the range 760 torr to 20 torr The pressure can be maintained at any desired value by including a manostat in the vacuum line. [Pg.88]
