Briefly, the quality management system is a combination of quality management, quality control and quality assurance. Quality assurance and quality control are components of the laboratory s quality management system. There is often confusion over the meaning of quality control and quality assurance and regrettably they are often used interchangeably. This is possibly because some quality control and quality assurance actions are interrelated. The definition of the terms can be found in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard, ISO 9000 2005 [2],... [Pg.14]

Further evidence of this lack of expert input is found in the opening line of Option 1, "Any light source that is designed to produce an output similar to the D,yiD emission standard." Such a standard does not exist. D, is a Commission Internationale de L Eclairage (CIE) (4) standard and (5) an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard. The SPDs of these two standards are different one is a filtered version of the other. [Pg.99]

The guidelines and regulations cited so far have focused on process safety. However, certification and award programs such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard 9002, "Quality Systems— Model for Quality Assurance in Production and Installation," place heavy emphasis on quality management. Written procedures and document control are important factors for ensuring and maintaining quality, reliability, and consistency. [Pg.15]

Therefore, the estimation of a medical device s safety lies the determination of the probability that a medical device would become hazardous for the user or patient, resulting in safety problems and harm. This activity is known as risk management and is regulated by International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 14,971 [63,64]. This process is divided in two activities, risk analysis and risk evaluation, that assist in a detailed assessment of the risks associated to the medical device s entire life cycle, from manufacturing to disposal. The estimation of the risk is a complex procedure that considers the probability of device failure or nonconformity, software, user errors, and type of injury possibly resulting to people or users. [Pg.142]

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 2631-1, Mechanical Vibration and Shock Evaluation of Human Exposure to Whole-Body Vibration Part I General Requirements , specify how to measure and analyze WBV. Action limits and exposure limits values are presented in Table 1 (Lewis Johnson, 2012). To further evaluate transient shock vibration exposures in relation to human health, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published a new WBV standard, ISO 2631-5, in 2004. Long-term... [Pg.321]

ISO 75 An International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard test method for determination of heat deflection temperature (HDT) and deflection temperature under load (DTUL). HDT is a relative measure of a materials ability to perform for a short time at elevated temperatures while supporting a load. The test measures the effect of temperature on stiffiiess a standard test specimen is given a defined surface stress and the temperature is raised at a uniform rate. Alternate test methods for HDT and DTUL are DIN 53461 and ASTM D648. [Pg.398]

ISO 2039-2 An International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard test method for determination of indention hardness of plastics by Rockwell tester using Rockwell M, L, and R hardness scales. The hardness number is derived from the net increase in the depth of impression as the load on a baU indenter is increased from a fixed minor load (98.07 N) to a major load and then returned to the minor load. This number consists of the number of scale divisions (each corresponding to 0.002 mm vertical movement of the indentor) and scale symbol. Rockwell scale vary depending on the diameter of the indentor and the major load. For example, scale R corresponds to the ball diameter 12.7 mm and major load 588.4 N Also called ISO 2039-B. [Pg.399]

Instructions on how to implement the risk control system are available, for example, in the most widespread document on the subject, Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Services (OHSAS) 18001 (and its interpretation, OHSAS 18002), Chapter 2. It is not a regular International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard, as is commonplace in the field of quality and environment controls, but a majority of certification authorities worldwide follow the standard. [Pg.65]

This heading covers such a large number of products and applications that it is difficult to give a complete inventory. For this reason the standards organizations, starting with ISO (International Organization for Standardization ), have published a series of standards to classify these products. [Pg.275]

Several countries have developed their own standard test methods for cellular plastics, and the International Organization for Standards (ISO) Technical Committee on Plastics TC-61 has been developing international standards. Information concerning the test methods for any particular country or the ISO procedures can be obtained in the United States from the American National Standards Institute. The most complete set of test procedures for cellular plastics, and the most used of any in the world, is that developed by the ASTM these procedures are pubUshed in new editions each year (128). There have been several reviews of ASTM methods and others pertinent to cellular plastics (32,59,129—131). [Pg.408]

Besides internal quaUty audits, there are audits conducted by external authorities for conformance to estabUshed quaUty systems. FiuaUy, no discussion on poUution prevention would be complete without reference to the ac tivities of the 49-year-old International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The primary pump types for the chemical industry for horizontal and vertical inline applications have been standardized in ANSI B-123, ANSI Std B73.1M for horizontal end suction centrifugal pumps, and ANSI B73.2M for vertical inline centrifugal pumps. The standards are in a continuous process of upgrading to suit requirements of industry and the manufacturers. The API-610 standard is primarily a heavy duty application, such as is used for the refinery and chemical industry requirements. This is the only true world pump [21] standard, although the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is studying such an improved design [20]. [Pg.161]

Recently, a new method of nomenclature of TPEs was produced jointly by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the Association of the Automotive Industries (VDA), Germany, and the producers of raw materials. Nevertheless, for this chapter the above-mentioned abbreviations for the TPEs have been utilized. Table 5.3 provides a list of significant suppliers of different generic classes of TPEs with respective trade names. [Pg.104]
