A professional society for persons in the environmental health field that conducts continuing education programs, placement sendees, awards programs, and compiles statistics on such subjects as air, water and land quality, food, pesticides, hazardous waste and toxic substances.

The Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards Program Summary of 2005 Award Entries and Recipients, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Washington, DC p 6. 

One of the principal elements of Green Zia that will be the focus of this paper is the third-party assessment and feedback report process. Like our Baldrige brethren at both the national level and at the state Quality Award Program level, Green Zia employs a number of volunteers to read applications that are submitted to our state Environment Department, provide nonprescriptive feedback on strengths and opportunities for improvement, determine a score for the application based on a 1000-point scale, and possibly conduct a site visit to verify/clarify the application. This paper will describe all aspects of the third-party examination process and will provide some personal insight as to the strengths and opportunities for improvement of our own process. 

Baldrige Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program,... 

Work carried out in the authors laboratory has been generously supported by- the National Institutes of Health and the City University Faculty Research Awards Program (BHE—PSC). 

The guidelines and regulations cited so far have focused on process safety. However, certification and award programs such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standard 9002, "Quality Systems— Model for Quality Assurance in Production and Installation," place heavy emphasis on quality management. Written procedures and document control are important factors for ensuring and maintaining quality, reliability, and consistency.
