Information gathering capability

The 8(b) inventory accumulation was the next major activity. For a decentralized company like Monsanto or, for that matter, most major chemical companies, the experience of centralized information gathering was a new experience. However, we believe that the experience not only was novel, but proved to be beneficial from several points of view. First of all, it enabled us to evolve a network of expertise. Second it gave us a central data-base on which to build other information important from a corporate point of view, and permit a one-time expense for developing a system. Third, it revealed that we needed to improve our data files in some areas. And, fourth, it gave our central staff departments some surprises as to substance locations. We used the Chemical Abstract Service Registry Profile capabilities to gather all the known synonyms and added our internal numeric and common identifiers to access the file via dozens of possible names or numbers. 

The nine strategies form a powerful set of tools to devise, construct, and refine pharmaceutical analysis methods. The proactive use of a single strategy, or the combination of several, produces unique information and inspires new perspectives on analysis. In this way, analysis methods create new mechanisms for information gathering, rather than passively waiting for a sample to be generated. And in this way LC/MS analysis capabilities partnered with samplegenerating disciplines to create new accelerated development opportunities.

As these examples show, there is considerable interplay between fluid dynamics, information gathering abilities, and the dynamics of populations in the field. Examining the environmental impacts on chemosensory orientation may therefore provide an important link between the sensory capabilities of animals and their ecology. 

Mini-UAVs will surely evolve into increasingly capable (and almost unnotice-able) surveillance platforms that will be economical to operate and safe to use over populated areas. Teams of mini-UAVs will be able to communicate with each other and organize themselves for optimal data gathering. In the not too distant future, mini-UAVs will become an essential part of information gathering systems that can supply near-real-time data to customers through the Internet. These transportable, inexpensive aircraft will also be used in remote locations that are currently too costly to monitor. 

Burck and Roweree suspect that the information gathered by intelligence agencies may be inherently limited. National Technical Means (NTM), which provides the bulk of their information , may monitor evidence of anti-chemical defences, exercises and delivery systems - the components of a chemical warfare capability that are the least able to be concealed from surveillance. Such evidence, insist Burck and Floweree, is not proof in itself of an offensive programme. Conversely, they contend that NTMs are much less useful in determining the purpose of research and development programmes, or the products of particular production facilities, or the secret... 

The main objective for an intelligent system in electrolyser operations is to gather and process valuable information for a greater control and efficiency. To achieve the aforementioned objective, two key functions have to be performed properly. Firstly, accurate and precise real-time data need to be obtained and secondly, the system should be able to process and interpret these data based on fundamental and acquired industrial electrochemical knowledge. In the case of R2 s EMOS , this second key element refers directly to its capability to use embedded human expertise to find optimal operating solutions and to detect and correctly identify equipment degradation or other anomalies. 

Many derivatives of fluorescein containing a reactive group at the C-5 position are commercially available [11], Fluorescein isothiocyanate, for example, is widely used as protein tag [12]. These substances have essentially the same spectroscopic properties as the parent compound with the additional capability of binding covalently to proteins. Because of their high emission quantum yields, fluorescein conjugates are extensively used as tracers for microinjection in living cells to gather information on the structure and function of cells, localization of proteins, and cell-to-cell and intracellular diffusion [13-17]. 

In this era of restricted headcount (and for any major project) it is common to bring in outside assistance to do some or all of the work. This is certainly acceptable, but firms should maintain some degree of internal expertise to oversee any external support. Once the validation project is completed, the firm is required to maintain the validated state. This is only possible when the core capabilities exist within the firm. The use of prepared forms for data entry during execution can be useful as a means to ensure that the correct information is gathered and promptly recorded.
