In recent years a lot of investigations have been made on this subject. E.g. Maciel and co-workers 41,42) found that several of the most prominent signals in the CP/M AS NMR spectra can be tentatively assigned for Norway spruce lignin to specific carbon atoms in the phenyl propane unit. The mineral on which I made the following experiments is found m the syenite on the island of Lovo near Brevig, Norway. Occurrence and Rates of Sulfate Reduction. Sulfate reduction is widespread in lakes, as evidenced by depletion of sulfate in sediment pore waters. Pore-water profiles showing depletion of sulfate have been published for more than 35 lakes (e.g., 98, 99). An absence of sulfate depletion in pore waters does not indicate an absence of sulfate reduction. Sulfate depletion was not evident in pore waters of McNearney Lake, but stable isotope measurements indicated that low rates of sulfate reduction must occur (1). Sulfate depletion was noted in 15 of 17 lakes in northeastern North America and Norway (80, 98), but uptake of 35S042 occurred even in two lakes in which no sulfate depletion was observed. Sulfate production and reduction can occur concurrently, and the former may exceed the latter. [Pg.330]

For methane hydrate, the minimum water depth is 381 m in freshwater and upto 436 m in seawater, respectively, at 277 K. In the world s oceans at water depths greater than 600 m, the temperature is typically uniform at 277 K, due to the density maximum in seawater. Lower bottom water temperature exceptions can be found with strong subbottom currents from Antarctic and Arctic environments such as the north of Norway or Russia. Methane-phase equilibrium data in Chapter 6, indicate that 3.81 MPa are required to stabilize methane hydrates at 277.1 K. Using the rule of thumb 1 MPa = 100 m water, hydrates in pure water would be stable at depths greater than 381 m. [Pg.569]

For zearalenone, a Position Paper produced by Norway was finalised in the 2000 CCFAC, and this delegation is also elaborating a draft Code of Practice for the Prevention of Contamination of Cereals by Zearalenone.16 Whereas the draft Code of Practice will be circulated for comments at step 3, there is no indication that an ML will be proposed in the near future. [Pg.273]

It should not be assumed that anomalous concentrations necessarily indicate contamination. Bolviken and Lag (1977) have described areas in Norway where the absence of vegetation is due to the toxic effects of high concentrations of metals in soils as a result of weathering of sulphide ores close to the surface. In conclusion, the results obtained with the BN rat model up to date at different laboratories indicate that the BN rat might be a useful model to study the potential oral allergenicity of novel food proteins.
