High specific gravity

Iodine vapor is characterized by the familiar violet color and by its unusually high specific gravity, approximately nine times that of air. The vapor is made up of diatomic molecules at low temperatures at moderately elevated temperatures, dissociation becomes appreciable. The concentration of monoatomic molecules, for example, is 1.4% at 600°C and 101.3 kPa (1 atm) total pressure. Iodine is fluorescent at low pressures and rotates the plane of polarized light when placed in a magnetic field. It is also thermoluminescent, emitting visible light when heated at 500°C or higher. 

Excessive Power Consumption Head too small, excess flow. High specific gravity or high viscosity. Bent shaft. Bound shaft. Incorrect rotation. 

A poly(tribromostyrene) with the bromine atoms attached to the benzene ring is marketed by the Ferro corporation as F yro-Chek 68 PB as a heat-resisting fire retardant used in conjunction with antimony oxide. The polymer has an exceptionally high specific gravity, reputedly of 2.8, and a softening point of 220°C. 

The resultant close packing and the heavy chlorine atom result in the polymer having a high specific gravity (1.875) and a low permeability to vapours and gases. 

A rather high specific gravity of about 1.40 (unfilled). 

The slow rotation of the drum and reciprocation of the agitator reduce maintenance requirements to a minimum but the following should be inspected periodically. The strip liner of the trunnion bearing at the valve end will normally wear at the lower half. However, in situations when the slurry has a high specific gravity, the drum has a tendency to become buoyant causing wear to the upper half. 

Adding high-specific-gravity materials to the slurry together with optimal or slightly reduced (but not necessarily the minimum) water-to-cement ratio for the particular cement class. 

Bromine is a dark-red liquid with high specific gravity. Iodine is a black solid which sublimes at atmospheric pressure producing a violet vapor. Both are used in CVD but to a lesser degree than either fluorine or chlorine. 

Sheather sugar flotation is recommended for the concentration of Cryptosporidium cysts. Although these oocysts will concentrate when the Formalin-ethyl acetate or zinc sulfate technique is used, they are more readily detected with the Sheather sugar flotation, for they stand out sharply from the background in this solution of high specific gravity. This procedure may be performed on unfixed or Formalin-fixed feces. The procedure for Sheather sugar flotation is outlined below. 

Naturally occurring barium sulphate, BaS04 it has the high specific gravity of approximately 4.45 and is used as a filler, especially when a high specific gravity rubber compound is desired or is not a disadvantage. Is also used as an acid resistant white filler. 

Litharge can also be used to provide compounds with high specific gravity and provides low permeability to, and protection from, radiation. 

By virtue of its high specific gravity, barite (barium sulfate)-filled PBT grades can be used to produce very dense, X-ray opaque, ceramic-like parts [37], Recently, metal-filled PBT resins using copper or tungsten powder have been used to prepare blends with very high specific gravity.

Perfluorocarbon liquids (PFCLs) are used in vitreoretinal (VR) surgery to stabilise the retina after vitrectomy. These surgical techniques use the hydrodynamic force created by the high specific gravity of the substances.
