Rust color

The rust-colored concrete chips shown in Fig. 11.24 were removed from the tube ends. Inspection of the water box revealed large quantities of debris adhering to the tube sheet. The gouging was caused by the lodgement of this hard debris at tbe inlet end of the tubes. Intense turbulence by the lodged debris was sufficient to cause highly localized erosion. [Pg.259]

The corrosion resistance of low-alloy steels is not significantly better than that of mild steel for aqueous solutions of acids, salts, etc. The addition of 0.5% copper forms a rust-colored film preventing further steel deterioration small amounts of chromium (1%) and nickel (0.5%) increase the rust... [Pg.64]

The initial stages of the DBX-1 synthesis using Cun-purified NaNT in place of raw NaNT produced similar observations as described above. Upon addition of the initial dose of sodium ascorbate, a gel-like material was formed with no evidence of crystalline DBX-1. After an apparent induction period of several minutes, a very different phenomenon was noticed. These events included a visual change in reaction mixture turbidity (it became clear) and an almost instantaneous drop in the counts of fine particles (see Figure 1). As the fines dropped the PVM almost instantaneously identified crystalline DBX-1 (see Figure 2). The event only lasted seconds and produced the beautiful rust colored crystals indicative of DBX-1 product. The second dose of reducing agent was started (denoted by the second start on the x axis) after formation of the DBX-1 crystals was identified. [Pg.2]

Cleaning. If the drained coolant is rust-colored or the radiator, as viewed through the filler neck, is rusty, the system should be cleaned. A flush type product will facilitate removal of sludge and loosely adherent rust. However, if the system is badly rusted, a heavy-duty cooling system cleaner will be required. In either case, the manufacturer s directions should be carefully followed. [Pg.13]

The mineral on which I made the following experiments is found m the syenite on the island of Lovo near Brevig, Norway. It was discovered by the pastor Esmarck, son of Jens Esmarck, famous professor at the University of Christiania. It is the latter who sent me a specimen, asking me to examine it, because, On account of its high specific gravity, he believed it to be the earth of tantalum. This mineral is black, with no indication of crystalline form or texture, and looks exactly like gadolinite from Ytterby, the exterior presents sometimes a thin rust-colored surface layer (12). [Pg.558]

The ternary hydride was formed also at a reduced pressure and temperature of 200 psi and 200°C, respectively, after several cycles of hydriding and decomposition. Mg2NiH4, a rust-colored solid with a nonmetallic luster, reacted sluggishly with water but more vigorously with nitric acid solution, giving off hydrogen. Mg2NiH4 appeared to be unreactive to air upon short exposure. [Pg.378]

If technical i-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid is used, the yield of ammonium i,2-naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate is 313 g. (84 per cent) of a rust-colored product. If the technical material... [Pg.94]

Table VI also shows that the mixture from the reaction of vanillyl alcohol and alkali contains at least two more unidentified compounds. These are represented by the spots located at the origin and at the Rf value of 0.16. It is possible that more than one compound, represented by the rust color, is located at the origin, but additional experimental work is necessary to verify this fact. These unknown compounds located at the low Rf values could be similar in structure to unknowns IV, V, VI, and VII, discussed previously. Bob reaches out to steady her, but they both lose their balance. Hand in hand, they fall into the hole. They slide along the smooth dirt wall and finally land in an emerald green liquid encrusted with a rust-colored powder. They hit the liquid feet first and quickly sink in up to their waists. Bob thinks he feels something move beneath his feet. Is it alive Or is it just sludge shifting beneath his weight ... [Pg.113]

Leaves with rust-colored pustules on undersides. Cause White pine blister rust. This fungal disease is passed back and forth between white pines (or other 5-needled pines) and various species of Ribes. The disease is much more devastating to pines than to Ribes, so Ribes plantings are sometimes banned where pines are economically important. European black currants are most susceptible. Red and white currants generally are not mugh affected. Avoid planting susceptible currants near white pines. [Pg.86]

Rusts Rusts are a specific type of fungal disease. Many of them require two different plant species as hosts to complete their life cycles. Typical rust symptoms include a powdery tan to rust-colored coating or soft tentacles. Cedar-apple rust and white pine blister rust are two common rust problems that can appear in home landscapes. [Pg.345]

Symptoms Hard, brown swellings appear on branch tips. These galls do not seriously damage cedar trees, but they can mar the plants appearance. Warm, moist weather in spring causes these galls to swell dramatically, and they produce gelatinous horns that release rust-colored spores. The spores then infect apple trees. For more details about this disease on apples, see Cedar-Apple Rust on page 373. [Pg.398]

The most thorough studies of promotion of fungal development by volatiles was done by French and co-workers (4-6) who showed that volatile compounds in solution or their vapors were effective promotors of rust spore germination. Rusts are diseases found on many species including crop plants such as wheat, corn, beans and others. They are caused by fungi whose life cycle includes multiple development steps with the formation of rust colored uredospores in... [Pg.193]
