6 MAXIMUM HARDNESS INDEX OF LEWIS ACIDS AND BASES 

According with Pearson, classification of acids and bases as hard and soft needs the recourse to the concept of strength although litde insight this 

There was further conjectured that if a sort of universal soft-to-hard scale of molecular strength is produced, and each time confirmed or never invalidated, then the HSAB principle itself will be consecrated among the chemical universal principles. The fact that such xmiversal classification was still not produced it does not mean that the HSAB principle is not applicable. Contrary, in our opinion, by both epistemological (the postulates need) and structural energetically arguments, see the last part of introduction, we are conducted to proceed in a reverse way, namely to assume the HSAB as valid principle in any circumstances and to apply it in order to establish the specific hard and soft character of a particular chemical bond or molecular strength. 

The present maximum hardness index Y is introduced on the ground of assumed HSAB as true principle resulting in consistent picture of the HSAB-MH chemical bonding. Within this picture the specific chemical hardness ranges were produced to assess the fype of hard and soft bond (as global character) and bonding (as interaction character) without any other artifacts. 

In this context, the actual hard and soft classification scheme will be in next compared and discussed against the traditional Pearson classification for a limited, however representative, series of molecular Lewis acids and bases as displayed in the Tables 3.1 and 3.2, respectively.
