Regional assessments

Groundwater vulnerability maps, based on a regional assessment using an index-based system, can be used as a screening tool to rapidly assess the relative scale of impacts arising from pressures. They may be useful for assessing whether ground-water bodies are at risk from pollution sources at initial characterisation.

The proposed approach for a regional assessment is to evaluate the risk components at different locations in the region, rank the importance of these locations, and combine this information to predict the relative risk among these areas. We also plan to share the results of our study, as well as our process of designing and conducting it, in various forums, both on campus (at a regional assessment conference) and beyond (at the Conference on College Composition and Communication and in publications). 

Correspondingly, regional assessments of critical loads are of concern for optimizing abatement strategy for emission of both N and S compounds and their transboundary transport (Figure 2).

Regional Assessments.
