Screening tools

The most obvious limitations of these methods are still related to the tools. Screening or selection methods require significant development time. This might be reduced by the development of versatile enzyme assays that can be adapted rapidly to specific conditions. The problem will also be reduced by integrating versatile standard analytic systems such as mass spectroscopy, HPLC or capillary electrophoresis into automatic high-throughput systems. [Pg.132]

Easy-to-Use Workplace Control Scheme (COSHH-BAuA tool)/ EMKG-Expo-Tool. Screening-level tool that predicts exposure via inhalation considering two principal factors the exposure potential of the handled substance and the applied control strategy. [Pg.97]

A two-dimensional slice may be taken either parallel to one of the principal co-ordinate planes (X-Y, X-Z and Y-Z) selected from a menu, or in any arbitrary orientation defined on screen by the user. Once a slice through the data has been taken, and displayed on the screen, a number of tools are available to assist the operator with making measurements of indications. These tools allow measurement of distance between two points, calculation of 6dB or maximum amplitude length of a flaw, plotting of a 6dB contour, and textual aimotation of the view. Figure 11 shows 6dB sizing and annotation applied to a lack of fusion example. [Pg.772]

In plant maintenance, the availability of quantitative and non-invasive screening NDT methods will reduce the time needed for shutdowns and increase the intervals between them. Modem NDT methods will become just as important a tool for Risk Based Inspection approaches and maintenance planning as operational parameters and degradation mechanisms already are. [Pg.951]

Aluminum is used in the home as household foh (0.18 mm thick), cooking utenshs (the first commercial use of aluminum), refrigerators, air conditioners, appHances, insect screening, and hardware. It is also used for toys, sporting equipment, lawn furniture, lawn mowers, and portable tools. In many of these apphcations, anodized or colored coatings are employed for decorative purposes. [Pg.126]

An example of the use of polyacrylamide gels in an ief system in combination with immun obi otting is given in Reference 40 where this method is used to detect low quantities of group specific component (GC) subtypes. Another example of polyacrylamide in combination with ief is given in Reference 41 where the technique is used as a screening tool for inheritance of a certain polymorphic protein. [Pg.182]

Reactive System Screening Tool (RSST) The RSST is a calorimeter that quickly and safely determines reactive chemical hazards. It approaches the ease of use of the DSC with the accuracy of the VSP. The apparatus measures sample temperature and pressure within a sample containment vessel. Tne RSST determines the potential for runaway reactions and measures the rate of temperature and pressure rise (for gassy reactions) to allow determinations of the energy and gas release rates. This information can be combined with simplified methods to assess reac tor safety system relief vent reqiiire-ments. It is especially useful when there is a need to screen a large number of different chemicals and processes. [Pg.2312]

Cathodoluminescence (CL), i.e., the emission of light as the result of electron-beam bombardment, was first reported in the middle of the nineteenth century in experiments in evacuated glass tubes. The tubes were found to emit light when an electron beam (cathode ray) struck the glass, and subsequendy this phenomenon led to the discovery of the electron. Currendy, cathodoluminescence is widely used in cathode-ray tube-based (CRT) instruments (e.g., oscilloscopes, television and computer terminals) and in electron microscope fluorescent screens. With the developments of electron microscopy techniques (see the articles on SEM, STEM and TEM) in the last several decades, CL microscopy and spectroscopy have emerged as powerfirl tools for the microcharacterization of the electronic propenies of luminescent materials, attaining spatial resolutions on the order of 1 pm and less. Major applications of CL analysis techniques include ... [Pg.149]

Certain features in the PR spectra at 300 K from GaAs/Gai j,jAlj heterojunction bipolar transistor structures have been correlated with actual device performance thus PR can be used as an effective screening tool. From the observed FK oscillations it has been possible to evaluate the built-in dc electric fields in the Gai j jAlj emitter, as well as in the n—GaAs collector region. The behavior... [Pg.393]
