AFM observations of impacted RDX crystals showed a very similar behavior to that of shocked RDX. When plastic flow occurred, large deformations were observed in the crystal lattice and molecules. As with shocks, plastic deformation so distorted the RDX molecules and lattice that there appeared no recognizable indication of the lowest energy configurations of the RDX molecules or lattice. Chemical reaction did not occur when the impacted crystal was at or near its maximum density and confined to prevent plastic flow. [Pg.106]


Assuming proper soil surface preparation (i.e., smooth with no soil clods or crop debris) and test substance application, the diameter of the soil probe does not generally impact observed pesticide residue concentrations in soil or associated variability. Brownian movement The rapid and random movement of particles of a colloidal sol, observed brightly lit against a dark ground. First observed with a pollen suspension. Electron-impact energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) differs from other electron spectroscopies in that it is possible to observe transitions to states below the first ionization edge electronic transitions to excited states of the neutral, vibrational and even rotational transitions can be observed.
