Fractionations, representative

Table 7.9 lists the estimated fractions of dyads of types m and r and the fractions of triads of types i, s, and h. These fractions represent the area under a specific peak (or four peaks in the case of the meso dyads) divided by the total area under all of the peaks in either the dyad or triad category. As expected for the sample labeled isotactic, 89% of the triads are of type i and 87% of the dyads are of type m. Likewise, in the sample labeled syndiotactic, 68% of the triads are s and 83% of the dyads are r. [Pg.484]

N = number of tubes in bundle Bog = baffle cut area, expressed as fraction, representing opening as percent of shell cross-section area. [Pg.217]

Lastly, it is worth mentioning that there are applications of two-or-more-step preparative TLC in solnble organic matter fractionations however, they are rarely described [4,86]. Each plate is developed successively in a series of solvents such as tetrahydrofurane, CHClj/MeOH (4 1 v v), toluene, and pentane such that the solvent front advancers approximately 4 cm with each successive solvent the plate dries up between the solvent, and the development tank atmosphere is allowed to equilibrate for at least 30 min after adding a new solvent, and before inserting the plates. Fractions represented immobile material in tetrahydrofurane (THE) and mobile compounds in successive solvents. [Pg.377]

Miniaturized columns have provided a decisive advantage in speed. Uracil, phenol, and benzyl alcohol were separated in 20 seconds by CEC in an 18 mm column with a propyl reversed phase.29 A19 cm electrophoretic channel was etched into a glass wafer, filled with a y-cyclodextrin buffer, and used to resolve chiral amino acids from a meteorite in 4 minutes.30 A 6 cm channel equipped with a syringe pump to automate sample derivatization was used to separate amino acids modified with fluorescein isothiocyanate.31 Nanovials have been used to perform tryptic digests on the 15 nL scale for subsequent separation on capillary Electrophoresis.32 A microcolumn has also been used to generate fractions representing time-points of digestion from a 40 pL sample.33 A disposable nanoelectrospray emitter has been... [Pg.429]

The oil recovered is first distilled. For oil A, the fraction having a boiling point lower than 210°C at atmospheric pressure (210 or C 2 fraction) represents 2.6 to 11 of the recovered oil, whereas the initial oil contains 2.5 of this fraction. The chemical changes affecting the produced oil are consistent with the evolution of its physical properties (Fig. 10). The same effect can be observed for a heavier crude. For example, for oil E, the 210 fraction represents 10 to 15 of the recovered oil even though this fraction doesn t exist in the initial crude oil. [Pg.422]

The bioavailability of trace elements in soil-water-plant ecosystems of arid zones is largely determined by their partitioning between solution and solid-phase components. The redistribution and transformation of trace elements among solid-phase components under various biogeochemical conditions strongly adjust their lability and bioavailability. Soluble, exchangeable and organically bound forms are bioavailable to plants. The carbonate bound fraction represents a reservoir of potentially bio-available trace elements to plants. In paddy soils, the amorphous Fe/Al oxide fraction contributes to trace element availability as well. [Pg.236]

Heats of fusion, AHfus, are generally expressed in kcal/mol or kJ/mol and entropies of fusion, ASlus in cal/mol-K (e.u. or entropy unit) or J/mol K. The fugacity ratio F, as discussed in Section 1.2.8, is used to calculate the supercooled liquid vapor pressure or solubility for correlation purposes. In the case of liquids such as benzene, it is 1.0. For solids it is a fraction representing the ratio of solid-to-liquid solubility or vapor pressure. [Pg.29]

Also, Petty et al. (2002) performed an in depth analysis of the OCP fraction of SPMD extracts by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) resulting in the tentative identification of about 400 airborne organic chemicals, which were not present in SPMD field blanks. The OCP fraction represents only one of several enriched fractions from SPMD samples. Table 8.1 summarizes the various classes of compounds tentatively identified in SPMDs exposed to indoor air. [Pg.171]

This system was studied by Schwartz. Toluene at 10 ppm, nitric oxide at 1 ppm, and nitrogen dioxide at 1.2 ppm were irradiated with ultraviolet lamps in a 17-m batch reactor for 270 min. Collected aerosols were successively extracted with methylene chloride and then methanol. The methylene chloride extract was fractionated into water-soluble and water-insoluble material, and the latter fraction was further divided into acidic, neutral, and basic fractions. The acidic and neutral fractions were analyzed by gas chromatography and chemical-ionization mass spectrometry the compounds identified are shown in Figure 3-7. The two analyzed fractions represented only about 5.5% of the total aerosol mass. It is noteworthy that classical nitration of an aromatic ring appears to... [Pg.69]

The constants of equations 6.16 and 6.17 are identical, on the basis of the principle of equal reactivity of cocondensing functional groups. Adopting Temkin s model for fused salts, and thus assuming that molar fractions represent activities over the appropriate matrix, we obtain... [Pg.416]

Determine Vq and Vt by chromatography of 0.5 ml of Soln. A. The blue fractions represent that volume which will contain the biotinylated conjugate, and the red fractions will give the waste (unbound biotin). After chromatography, equilibrate the column again with PBS. [Pg.100]

The factors a, b and c are mole fractions representing the populations of the rotamers syn-l/anti-1, syn-2/anti-2 and syn-3/anti-3, respectively, in the equilibrium. Analogous equations result if chemical shifts are evaluated367. [Pg.337]

Of the petroleum solvents, the aromatic fractions are much better solvents for DDT than the paraffinic fraction. The limited solubility of DDT in the paraffinic fraction, representative of straight-run petroleum oils, shows that such oils alone cannot be used as solvents in concentrated DDT solutions. An auxiliary solvent would have to be used to prepare concentrated solutions with them. It was not possible to correlate solubility with mixed aniline point and aromatic content. This was presumably due to differences in the solubility of DDT in the individual hydrocarbons present which included both monocyclic and dicyclic types. No attempt was made to determine the amount of the individual hydrocarbons in the aromatic fractions. [Pg.54]

A void fraction, a, should be calculated using the methods above, and with the superficial velocity, jg, calculated from equation (A3.2). This void fraction represents the final void fraction in the reactor at the end of two-phase venting. Thus ... [Pg.150]

Biscuits were prepared from plant-protein flours based on 20Z replacement for wheat flour. In biscuits prepared with fractions isolated from cottonseed flours, the quantities used were calculated using the percentages these fractions represented of the original flour, e.g., the salt solution soluble fraction of LCP flour was 43X of the original flour and 8.6Z, (20 x 0.43) replacement for wheat was used to prepare the biscuit. [Pg.22]

In 1964, Anraku (2, S) reported the isolation of an enzyme from Escherichia coli B which hydrolyzed ribonudeoside 2, 3 -cyclic phosphates. Enzyme fractions representing a 900-fold purification also possessed 3 -nucleotidase activity. Similar activities have subsequently been purified from Proteus mirabilis (4, 5), halophilic Vibrio algino-lyticus (6, 7), Bacillus subtilis (8), and various Enterobacteriaceae, specifically, Shigella sonnei, Salmonella heidelberg, Serratia marcescens, Proteus vulgaris (9), and others (10). The enzyme from each organism is strikingly similar, but some differences are apparent. [Pg.356]
