Flowing systems, pressures fluctuation

Regulation of systemic blood pressure. The vascular system is a primary effector in the regulation of systemic blood pressure through its ability to alter the distribution of blood flow and regulate the cardiac output and thereby buffer systemic pressure fluctuations. [Pg.48]

Don t forget about time. Pressures in flowing systems naturally fluctuate by a few percent. To avoid the distortion of an observed differential pressure due to such fluctuations, select a reference pressure somewhere in the process. After each pressure measurement, recheck... [Pg.703]

As core flow reduces, pressure drop across the core reduces. Pressure fluctuations are seen only for 1 s. As and when the pump flow, leakage flow and core flow stabilizes, pressure fluctuation also subsides. It can be seen that there is no void formation in any SA since pressure at all points in the system stays above the vapour pressure of sodium at the operating temperature (278 Pa). Core flow estimates also compare well with the incompressible flow model estimates. [Pg.102]

The system operates at 250 bar, with extremes of both flow and pressure fluctuations in a cycle that is repeated approximately four times every minute. For this reason it is considered to be a heavy duty, with a weighting factor of 4. [Pg.361]

The operation of flow dampers can cause pressure fluctuations in the ductwork system. Measurements by Melin indicate that pressure oscillations in an exhaust system can cause instabilities in the airflow through a fume cupboard sufficient to give rise to outward leakage of contamination, especially when a person stands in front of the cupboard. [Pg.890]

Fluctuations in the inlet and discharge pressures indicate potential system problems that may adversely affect performance and reliability. Pressure fluctuations are generally caused by changes in the ambient environment, turbulent flow, or restrictions caused by partially blocked inlet filters. Any of these problems will result in performance and reliability problems if not corrected. [Pg.561]

The simulated FBAC consists of an acrylic main reactor (0.5m-H x 0.5m-W x l.Om-L), an air distributor system, particles feeding system including a feed hopper, a discharging sampler, a bag filter for capture of the elutriated fine particles and, pressure and flow rate measurement systems (Fig. 1). The air distributor system has ten air headers. An individual air header is connected with 5 air nozzles and can regulate the airflow rate. The opening ratio of the distributor is 2.1% and each nozzle has four holes for uniform air supply. To measure the pressure fluctuation at an individual air header, high frequency pressure transmitters were mounted at the approach and the exit headers of the FBAC. [Pg.510]

Because of the complex flow pattern, it is not generally possible to determine visually the velocity at which the system ceases, in effect, to be a fluidised bed. From measurements of pressure fluctuations, the following approximate relation may be used, although with considerable care ... [Pg.325]

The viscometer assembly is placed in the constant temperature column compartment of the chromatograph between the column outlet and the refractometer. A combination of two Waters Associates M-45 hydraulic filters in series with a capillary tubing coil (length 10 ft., I.D. 0.01 in.) is used to dampen the line pressure fluctuations caused by the pump. With the above pressure damping modifications the overall system noise was reduced to less than 1 millibar at 1.0 ml/min flow rate in tetrahydrofuran (THF) for a set of six p-Styragel columns 10 ,... [Pg.282]

Extensive reviews of active instability suppression techniques are found in McManus et al. [18] and Candel [19]. Also, Zinn and Neumeier [20] provide an overview of research and developmental needs for practical applications. Most of the previous studies have used actuators impractical in liquid-fueled systems, such as loudspeakers that impose acoustic perturbations on gaseous flow. The major emphasis in the present study was to establish active instability suppression using liquid-fuel injection. According to Rayleigh s criterion [21, 22], combustion-acoustics interaction can be used to damp the undesirable oscillations provided that pressure fluctuations p and heat release fluctuations q satisfy the proper phase relation such that... [Pg.334]

Cross flow control for automatic compensation of pressure fluctuations between the sterile and washing areas Sliding plate adjustment to raise the separating baffle plates between the individual zones to a required height Filter monitoring system to indicate when a filter has reached its maximum degree of contamination... [Pg.568]

Pressure Test The performance of the LC pump depends on the proper functioning of the pump seal, check valves, and proper connection of the tubing. Properly functioning pump seal check valves and tubing connections are important in maintaining stable mobile-phase flow and system pressure. For pump systems that output the pressure reading in the pump head over time, a simple pressure test can be a useful qualitative test to check the performance of the seals and check valves and to determine whether or not there are any leaks in the system [9]. When performing the pump pressure test, make sure that the system is well primed so that no bubbles are present in the pump system. The pressure fluctuation caused by the presence of air bubbles in the pump will lead to misinterpretation of the test results. [Pg.176]

In order to understand the profile of the pressure fluctuation over the volumetric space inside the reactor, multipoint measurement is carried out in each run with five probes. The measuring points are arranged according to the coordinate system shown in Fig. 11.3, where the x-z plane is the impingement plane, x-y is the horizontal plane, and y-z the vertical plane the values of the coordinates are in mm. The flow inside the SCISR is considered to have an approximately axial symmetry. For convenience, part of the data are interrelated in a pillar coordinate system, and the radial coordinate, r, is determined by... [Pg.241]

The reasonable inference is that strong micromixing and pressure fluctuation promote process kinetics by the mechanisms of increasing both the probability of collision and the effective collisions. Or, more generally, process kinetics not only depends on the nature of the substance system involved and the operating conditions but also relates to the flow configuration in the processing device employed. [Pg.254]

A word of warning the flow rate of water through an aspirator is subject to change, often sudden change, as the water mains pressure fluctuates. This may produce changes in the pressure in the system being evacuated, or even cause suckback of water into the trap bottle. If a constant pressure (especially for reduced-pressure distillation) is required, one must be alert for such changes and be ready to make required adjustments. [Pg.588]

A number of innovations in FFF design have been introduced recently which have improved resolution and sensitivity and reduced the major obstacles to automation. The introduction of cross-flow recirculation has resulted in better control of system pressures, thereby reducing baseline fluctuation and improving reproducibility [6]. The incorporation of a frit inlet (FI) into the flow FFF channel has permitted the use of hydrodynamic relaxation as a replacement for stop-flow relaxation, thus eliminating pressure fluctuations associated with the latter [7]. FI also reduces sample adhesion to the membrane on the accumulation wall, thereby reducing the likelihood of baseline drift and artifacts [7]. [Pg.1729]
